And what if he was... in disguise, before the "incident"? Surely you would love it the same, would you not?

EA really have to step it up with the look of this game and Madden. Year after year they just look dated. They should get some tips from the teams who do NHL and FIFA those games look great and they get better looking every year.

I was a big fan of the series when it was about the Tiger Challenge and spaming the power, spin buttons, and wearing two watches to increase your stats. Since the turn towards realism I haven't been much of a fan.

Yeah I really like this realism stuff (with the move/wii etc) but having a separate career for a more arcadey mode would be very welcome as well. They just port the game every year so its not like they couldn't find the time to bring in some of the "fun" stuff.

Ok, so the caddy isn't your best friend...how is the gameplay? What about the features?

Agreed. This felt more like a post 2005 IGN review than a Joystiq review. Weird lol

I hate to be 'that guy' and I am not the biggest score checker, but this review doesn't really tell us much about the gameplay tweaks, the graphical improvements or any changes aside from the caddy....this is more of a discussion on a feature of the game instead of a full review.

Be nice to hear more, like was this played with Move? How were the controls?

Pretty disappointed with this review...

This review makes me want to neither play nor not play the game. It's a charming anecdote about a new feature, sure, but I know nothing of how the game works after reading this beyond an emotionless caddy. I've been away from the series for 5 years. How's the online set up? I know that's been shaky in the past. What about graphics? Control schemes? Gameplay? Anything visceral or tangible I can sink my teeth into beyond the cold dead stare of an NPC?

@Strider119

It's a yearly update to an EA Sports game. If there was anything new and innovative, they probably would have mentioned it, I imagine.

@Colin Except the PGA Series isn't usually caught in that yearly no update crap like Madden. There actually are substantial changes to the way the game plays. He could've talked about how the caddy really affects gameplay, or how they've created a vastly improved ai. He could've mentioned how much of an impact the masters and Augusta National have on the single player experience...There's quite a bit to say, trust me.

I love Joystiq, but this review ranks down there with Neir.

Dave,

I gotta say man, I kinda agree with the bulk of the comments here. I enjoy your wittiness on the podcast, but when I see a review up for a game I actually enjoy playing, A game that I am interested to hear details about features, graphic enhancements, presentation (menus, online lobbies, the commentators), etc... and all we get is the silly stuff that I laugh at while sitting at my desk or traffic… Come on bro… you can do better.

Reviews aren't feature lists. At least, our reviews aren't. If you want a list of all the bullshit, bullet-pointed features that don't make a lick of difference in the end product, I'm sure EA would be more than happy to provide them to you.

What Dave did was tell you about his experience, focusing on the tangible ways this release is different from the last game in his time with it. If you'd prefer marketing materials, I'm sure there are a host of other sites that would be happy to oblige.

@JustinMcElroy

How about the tiger challenge which adds to the fun but changes every game in its set up. Is it only in the masters? Is it fun or has it taken a turn for the worse from previous games?

How about how your career progress now has locks in it because DLC courses are needed. That might be big for some people. Oh, I read that in another review. There are lot of things to talk about and other reviews have been much more detailed.

How about the courses, do they look better, the same, worse? Is the crowd still lame as ever or do the finally get you pumped up? Is the announcing improved?

As you can see there' a lot more to cover than just a list of features.

He did a good job in creativity, but I don't read reviews for that.

With all due respect, no one expected "marketing materials." We were just expecting a *review* because that's the title of this article.

Not sure the profanity and recommendation to visit other sites was really necessary, either. Wow.

@Brian Griffin I don't mean "go read other sites" in a dismissive way. I mean "Dave's review doesn't have the burden of being completely comprehensive, because there are many other sites."

@khaos100 If it was a big part of the experience, then I'm sure Dave would have mentioned it. Also, if you're not looking for creativity in reviews, then you are reading the wrong site's reviews. We hope you'll continue to enjoy our news, feature and preview content.

Yes, I knew what you meant. Just felt the tone came off as a bit belligerent.

Again, it's not a question of whether it's comprehensive or not, it's a question of whether it's a *review* or not. Perhaps the fault lies in the precedent set with all the great reviews we've all read on Joystiq which--while not long winded--do a more than effective job. Thanks.

Since I don't have the money for a PS3 and have no need for a Wii I'll just wait next year for Kinect to be implemented.

It would be amazing to be able to use a real club or set of clubs to perfectly replicate golf. Please let me know when you end up with a 9 iron embedded in your TV.

@Russet Burbanck You make no sense with your fanboyism but any who EA said the only reason they didn't implement Kinect in this years version is because they are still learning it and don't want to release a non-responsive game they already have plans to implement it if you ever kept up on the interviews so before you go all ragey settle down and get your facts straight you don't have to use an object for Kinect thats the whole purpose you don't see me holding a damn Javelin for Kinect sports but anyways.

Wow. Settle down buddy. I was saying I would love to actually be able to have actual clubs to use with this game. You will never get the correct weight or feel with a controller (or without). But using real clubs would be impractical. It was a joke. Sorry. Guess I learned my lesson.

I agree. I read this article to determine if I should be more interested in purchasing this game than I am now. However, I wasn't able to learn much about the gameplay from this article. If I had a little more interest I'd now go to another site to read a full review. However, I'll just disregard this game altogether. Maybe that is the objective of this article. Then again, it was given 4/5 stars...

If this was a review in the before time, prior to the star system, I don't think anyone would be as upset. Joystiq's game articles used to be more about the experience and less about the score. Interesting article, Dave, although I would say its more of an anecdote of your play through than a review.

I know this post is for the 360/PS3 versions. But Tiger Woods 12 on Wii... not only does it have Disc Golf, Mini Golf & 7 more courses included on the disc (23 vs the 16 on the 360/PS3 versions)... but the swing is even more realistic with not only motion plus, but addition of balance board support! Tiger Woods 12 on the Wii will have me keeping my Wii for a long time, just to play this game.
