And the hits just keep on coming. THQ has confirmed to Gamasutra that it has reduced the staff sizes of Red Faction developer Volition, Inc. and Homefront developer Kaos Studios. Volition, whose team of around 200 is also working on the next, bonersword-equipped installment in the Saint's Row franchise, had its headcount cut by 16 positions. Kaos Studios, which employs more than 100 developers, lost 17 across its departments.
In its statement to Gamasutra, representatives for THQ explained, "The changes are not expected to affect any current or future titles in development with Volition." The statement adds that Kaos has a "dedicated team in place" to continue supporting Homefront with post-launch content while preparing for future projects. We wish the 33 folks affected by the cutbacks the best of luck in getting back on their feet.

It's sad to hear about people losing their jobs more often than hearing about companies hiring.

@FlashJS Im sure this is justified though, Homefront was a very shoddy game.

@LEONLEONLEON First off, none of the people at Volition had anything to do with Homefront. Second, people are losing their livelihoods here -- congratulations on being a dick.

So, Homefront was a failure after all, huh?

"a "dedicated team in place" to continue supporting Homefront "
That quote makes me laugh. I still cant find a game or even get to a lobby without it freezing.

Homefront sales must not be doing well. The MP seems pretty fun though, outside of lobby wait times and some lag.

What platform are you playing on? PC works perfectly for me, I can find a game all the time :3.
And it's been a blast to play, only wish I found more time to play it between work and SC2 heh.

Seems odd that they would let people from Volition go, seeing as that is really their main studio right now, what with Saints Row, Red Faction, and inSane being worked on. I usually never care about these stories, since I just assume the people getting let go were all temporary, contracted workers who were fully aware of their status.

That's just the nature of news. Bad news is always reported on more often than good news.

Bet it sucks for Volition.

@Faenix No one hates opinions, they just hate people who share opinions for the sole purpose of getting a rise out of people, and passing them off with an air of authority. Point being, it's not the opinion, rather the attitude in which it is presented.

Disagree whole heartily as I've enjoyed all three of those titles.
Red faction:guerrilla - Only downfall was its nonstop annoying spawning enemies
Saint's Row - Hated on because it copied the GTA model and improved on it.
Saint's Row 2 - Some of the most outrageous fun I've had in singleplayer and coop modes! Was what GTA4 should of been fun-wise.

Red faction:guerrilla - Sadly I wish It had more of a story, and better spawning for enemies. I think if the next RF has a story I might be a bit interested. Maybe even a rental.
SR 1 and 2 - I think by the time they came out, I was sick of the usual open world game.. though I oddly enjoyed GTA4 except for the driving O_o
In other news, I cant wait for Metro 2034 - and I totally think there going the wrong way with Darksiders 2.

Correct me if I'm reading this article wrong, but it doesn't sound all that bad. Yes, people were laid off. But from what I understand it's due to downsizing to fit with the nature of there current projects. So yes it's sad that people had to lose there jobs, but on the same token it wasn't due to the poor performance of Volition, or Kaos.

Actually, layoffs after a major project is done at Kaos sounds normal to me. As to why Volition has layoffs I don't know, shouldn't they be ramping up development for Saints Row?

I keep seeing that new logo, but their corporate headquarters in Agoura Hills (not 5 minutes from my house) is still using their old logo on both the building and the parking entrance sign.

Just ONCE I'd like to hear the company representatives say "these layoffs are totally going to fvck current and planned games from the studios and everyone is scrambling"
I don't think that's necessarily what always happens, but the standard party line is so expected I don't know why its even offered.

Wasn't it said that Homefront had to sell 2.5 million to be profitable?
What they didn't tell us was how quickly the game was meant to reach it.

THQ games have always been really shitty. There are a few gems once in awhile (Red faction) but mostly crap. They need to fire the people in charge not the people making the games.

Well well , Homefront really sucks so we should all sing songs of joy. Hopefully they will not make another one of these horrible games. For the employees, I wish them the best in finding jobs at better companies. THQ offically sucks, no matter how many games they claim homefront sold. Hahhahha, die a slow death in sand murahahahah!!!

I've played a bunch of Homefront multiplayer and I can honestly say, in my experience, the matchmaking and Live play has been no better and no worse than Black Ops. It works, has the odd hiccup, but ultimately plays well. It's a fun game and a welcome change to those of us who had gotten a little sick of Black Ops. Here's an idea, go try it for yourself, then make up your own mind.

They laid off the 33 people that were responsible for the other 4 hours of Homefront's campaign.
