I was excited until I got to play it at PAX...now? Not so much. It seemed like a shitty version of Team Fortress that took its self to seriously

@MrBojangles288
Could you elaborate on "shitty"?
Right now it just seems like you're whining. And sense when is serious a bad thing? Since Bulletstorm was released?

@Special Agent Steve
no I played it too...I can confirm it plays like a poor copy of TF2(which still=better than 90% of other fps's) he's pretty much spot on....

@darkfocus

Fair enough, first off someone mentioned frame rate. And granted the game was still in a beta phase (i believe) frame rate was slow.
The map i played was also poorly constructed, a large map with all action occurring in one difficult to reach area.
Although the amount of guns was extensive there was no noticeable difference in many of their functions.
Colors were grey and bland.
Free running was not nearly as fun or useful as it was sold to be.

I used to think I liked the movie Hackers more than most people. After all, the majority of people don't even remember that that movie exists.

Then I started reading Joystiq. Those guys really, really like Hackers. Like a lot.

looks decent enough, thought it would be more freerunning focused from the first trailer.

I'm hoping this turns out good. I love the art style. My biggest concern is frame-rate. Some of the earlier videos I've seen show a questionable frame-rate. Hopefully they've got it running at or near 60fps. Again, I'm hoping it turns out awesome!

Looks like TF2 + Borderlands + Bulletstorm. I'm medium-ish interested.

Brink looks cool, this isn't an attack on the game, but watching this trailer pointed out to me how surprisingly disinterested I find myself in it, prompting me to consider why... "Manshoots" just don't do it for me anymore. Ok, there's a cool new movement mechanic.. now put it in a game that has exploration and some interesting interaction with the world or characters and I'll bite.. It's just guns, guns, guns. Everywhere. Even the majority of games without guns are about killing things and being killed by things. Can we get the hell over it already? I'm not opposed to fictional violence at all, but I crave things with a bit more thought and meaning. I prefer first person games over all others for reasons of immersion, but the vast, vast, vast majority of them are just doing the same thing again and again.

Of course I'll play more FPS games, especially when there are ones as immersive and creative as the Half-Life series or ones with the explorative freedom of the Stalker or new Fallout titles, but damn.. the possibilities have really opened up as both technology and the skills\art of game development have grown, yet most games with the resources behind them to actually do something remarkable seem content (or desperate) to repeat the same old patterns.

Sorry to rant. Anyone feel the same way?

its the old if it ain't broke, don't fix it idea. with cod and halo bringing in the take they do, the paradigm will not change. large companies almost never venture outside of the mainstream due to risky financial investments. its the same thing with movies. as long as the transformers and matrix's of the film world continue to haul in huge returns, you can expect to see more of the same.

@edit How is s.t.a.l.k.e.r. anyhow? It sounds almost like fallout 3 but with better, playable fps mechanics. I was reading up on metro 2033 when I jumped unto the stalker review.

@kentuckyfried The Stalker games are rough around the edges (the FPS mechanics are less clunky than F3's but the poor accuracy of starting weapons makes it feel a bit restrictive at first) but generally provide a rich gloomy atmosphere to immerse yourself in and great amount of freedom. To a point. They each have a 'point of no return' and a (to me) extremely annoying final section with some kind of time pressure. I've had a great time with them and highly recommend them, but watch gameplay vids before deciding if they are for you. Some mods can really improve the game depending on your tastes. I think the Fallout games have more in the way of variety, quests and characters to talk to though. If you liked F3 but haven't tried New Vegas I highly recommend it, my preferred game of the two.

I played through Metro 2033 recently and while it does the atmosphere extremely well it's not very forward thinking in some ways - Linearity, disconnected levels, checkpoint saves, literal 'on rails' sections.. I enjoyed the stealth oriented parts and had a decent time overall, but I don't think I'll be replaying it any time soon.

I am with you on this one.
I guess it has something to do with the productions being so expensive these days, that most play it safe.
But we are so many gamers now, and a lot of us have been playing games for 20+ years now. Let the games evolve as the gamers have.
Playing cowboys and indians are fun... yes... but there IS more to life than shooting people in the face, no matter how great it looks.

God! I hope a console demo of this game comes out... Wouldn't want to spend money on a game that fails to deliver (not that I'm saying that Brink won't, just don't want to be disappointed if it doesn't). This game has interested me since they days it was a slight rumor, with no gameplay to back it up... Now, I'm just hoping it can (at least) have a good framerate.

I was really excited for this until I saw it being played at PAX -- didn't play it myself because I wasn't going to wait in the line. Now I'm just interested in it, no longer excited. It just really didn't look as different and unique as the trailers have made it look. I think it probably really requires hands-on time so I'm not going to discount it completely but seeing it in action really made me lose all excitement for it.
