A report in tabloid The Sun of the 3DS making headaches in "thousands" of users is just plain untrue according to Nintendo, HMV and GAME, the three entities the paper mentions. Nintendo said returns are "well below" other hardware launches and GAME says less than five people have complained that the portable made them ill. In fact, you can't even return something in the UK because it made you sick.
HMV admits some 3DS systems have been traded in for store credit, but stops short of copping to "thousands." Sheesh, what is this world coming to when you can't even trust the tabloids?

The system's most publicized feature should be turned off? What's the point then? I understand you get better graphics and such, but the NGP is far better in that department.
It's like saying the PS3 would still be successful even if it didn't play Blu-rays. That's why it sold so many freaking systems! O_o

I wanted to buy a 3DS but now i'm going to pass. I played with it for 5 minutes and got a headache and my eyes were killing me. Yes I could turn it off but then why am I paying 250 bucks? Drop the price to 199 or 179, I can get a psp now for 129 that has better specs.

PSP is actually a weaker system, it just had a better resolution due to having a larger screen, but the 3DS is far more powerful.

Bleh, I almost got suckered into buying a 3DS as had a pre-order for 2 months, but I tried it out at a local Best Buy before launch and found it irritated the crap out of me. I'll stick to non-gimmicky gaming thank you very much.
In other news, would anyone like to buy a Wii?!?

How is the 3D on the 3DS 'gimmicky gaming?' You don't even need to use it. That's like hating a pocket knife for having a toothpick.
Plus, what makes you think people weren't irritated by televisions when they first came out?

@SushiGummy In most pocketknives, the toothpick doens't get top billing, and be the main difference between your pocketknife and others.

While I didn't get headaches using the 3DS, I did feel it strained my eyes a lot. I would probably return it if this kind of thing happened constantly.

As others have said...there is a 3D off button...
Must we access the parental controls so we can limit the amount of 3D you get to use?

@Nolan North Which makes the use of a 3d system useless, maybe the news was that they are trading it and not returning it, I see a lot of people having problems with it trading for a regular DS.
But having a 3DS with the 3D feature off, that' some good money wasting.

Yes, because the system is just a 3D DS and nothing more, no better graphics, no gyroscope, no sound, no wireless features and the like, it's just the 3D...oh wait.
It's even been confirmed that there will be games made that won't utilize the 3D due to the gyroscope controls.

@Nolan North So Nolan, in your opinion, if a part of a product makes people physically ill, they should be happy with their purchase and just turn a feature off?

It's a system with a 3D screen, but the most exciting changes aren't the 3D so I'd say it's reasonable to just turn the 3D off if you can't view it.
I could care less about 3D myself. I just know the DS has had dozens of awesome games (more than I've been able to buy), so the additional processing power and control options are why I want a 3DS.

Ditto. I don't really know how to describe it. I tried it in BB and it was like I really had to focus for it to work, and as soon as I relaxed my eyes even a little bit everything got blurry or doubled.
I definitely couldn't have done it for extended periods of time, and I still haven't opened my preorder because of it.

It's an optional part of a product that doesn't work with everything with it. Even though the launch games have 3D used, not all things are in 3D on them (for example, Super Street Fighter 4's intro and character videos). Though it is a main feature of the hardware, the feature is still VERY software based and is dependant on the software you buy for it. The PS3 has 3D support, yet I don't use it, because I don't have a 3DTV. Am I wasting my money because I'm not using this optional feature? No, in fact, I'm saving it.

The Sweet spot and what you have to focus on is also dependant on software. If you saw the demo at Best Buy, you most likely were looking at Pilot Wings, which has a small sweet spot and makes it a bit harder to focus. In that type of game, you have to focus on the center and adjust.
Play Super Street Fighter 4, or any of the system's built in software, and you'll see those to be easier to adjust. Play Madden and you'll never find a sweet spot.

Pilotwings is very frustrating with 3D, I'll give you that. Almost canceled my pre-order with the way it made me feel. Glad I ddin't, because everyother game I've played has worked super. I cant play flying games anyway, they make me dizzy withut 3d... including the original pilotwings haha. But all good poins about the sweet spot.

@Vcize - That's exactly the experience I had when I demoed it. Nothing I did in terms of focusing, or moving my head, made the 3D viewable to me. I tried everything, but it just made my eyes hurt more and more until I gave up. Maybe Pilotwings is the most difficult game to look at in 3D initially, but it really soured my opinion of the system (which is unfair, and I will buy it eventually, but it is what it is).
I think I've heard enough anecdotal evidence at this point (alongside my first hand experience) of the 3DS demoing poorly (especially with Pilotwings) to conclude that the 3DS just doesn't do well in a short demo setting.

@jph89 -I was modulating the 3D slider all over the place. At just barely 3D, the blurring did get lesser, but it wasn't perfect.

How is it money wasting to turn off a feature you don't even like? Do you HAVE to play with the 3D on to get value for your money? You can still play all the games, and use features like SpotPasd, the eShop, control games with the Circle Pad etc. 3D is not the most important thing, just a fun graphical effect, that adds more to what's already awesome. Sadly, some people can't use this, but the console is still pretty awesome.
