The rest of the video just fills us with jealous awe, considering the closest we'll probably ever get to pulling off some of the featured stunts is when we play Mirror's Edge or the upcoming Brink. Actually, we take that back. We could totally do the stunts, but we'd have to call ahead to the hospital and pre-order a room first.
Tempest Freerunning Academy features Mario tribute

The recently opened Tempest Freerunning Academy in Los Angeles has put together a promotional video of its gym that hits several notes obligating us to write about it. The fantastic feats of athleticism in the clip begin with various free runners flipping, climbing and jumping across a set inspired by the 8-bit world of Super Mario Bros.

Well, I'm not gonna lie. Starting younger does help. But I guess there are a lot of variables. Like how good shape you are in now, how active you are, etc. But anything is possible. All you have to do is stick with it. Know who Damien Walters is? He's amazing, I envy that guy. I'm pretty sure he is like 29.

@TraceurRyuk Part III 29? Might as well be dead by that point. Anyone over 15 should be put out to pasture.

I know 29 isn't that old. I was just comparing it to him since he said he is 27.

I think freerunning/parkour is a pretty awesome sport ever since it became sort of mainstream (at least, when people started hearing about it). It was around '04, I guess but I reckoned I was already too old back then. I mean, even back then wasn't that rare to come across a video of a 13-year-old breaking all of his teeth attempting some move. Not to mention that I live on the edge of the Earth.
Well, maybe next life ^^

this stuff is phenomenally awesome and terrifying. whenever i saw someone spinning with their hand as the support, i just envisioned them not pulling it up fast enough and annihilating their elbow... for the love of playing table tennis, be careful.

When I first started free-running I was a bit too ambitious and went for a jump a bit out of my skill level (That, and I was 14 and trying to impress my friends). I injured my knee because I didn't know basic safety maneuvers, ever since then every now and then my knee will start hurting. So yeah, it can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

That was an awesome video. Kinda reminded me of an OK Go video where everything is super coordinated with very few cuts. Impressive!
Faith does parkour in Mirror's Edge btw, not freerunning.

Nah, Faith is missing some basic vaults to call it Parkour. Also, she uses really unconventional methods. I'd call it free-running. Though to be honest, it doesn't really matter. Everyone has their own style, despite what you want to call it.

I agree about everyone having their own style, that's true.
I still feel Faith's movement is more in the style of parkour vs. freerunning, because she runs to get somewhere / escape from someone as quickly & efficiently as possible (instead of running for style and the art of movement). Her motivation is the very essence of parkour. Yes she is missing some vaults, but that's only a limitation of the game controls (you can see her do them in the comic, for example).

Sad to admit that I don't... I'm just an enthusiastic observer. But hey, the internet turns us all into "experts," right?
I love the outdoors but my skills are in other pursuits. Have a great respect for what these freerunners do though. You?

Yeah, have for a little over 4 years now. Just as my name implies, TraceurRyuk. I actually started tricking at first, I did Martial Arts and a little gymnastics and combined the two. Which led me to free-running.

Always in awe of people who are capable of running free like this (and reminds me of the awesome Office bit -Parcours!-.
Love the everybody happy bit at the end as well.
Oh, and very great track to top it all off.

Just because you don't see a point in it doesn't mean there isn't a point in it. Why do you play video games? Or any of your hobbies? Besides, you get more practical uses from this than you do video games.

Not exactly true. Physical development doesn't always trump mental development. If you work in an office all day, free running is practically of no use to you, where the strategy and spatial recognition that's usually developed from video games may help. It's best to draw a nice balance to develop physical and mental capacities.
But I agree about everything else. Plus, both are fun.

CommentGuy impressions on Wii:
"It's awesome!
Having a next gen console isn't just about graphics, it's about having new interactive menus. The Wii channels thing is just great, it's like a new TV cable company about video games. The Mii thing looks awesome, I can't wait to mingle."
I mean, WTF?! Is it the same guy? What happened that made you so bitter, CommentGuy? Did your doggie die? Or maybe it was a kitten?
Geesh
