The Sims 3: Generations expansion pack sprouts in spring

The Sims are getting ready for some cross-generational play this spring. Wow, that opening line could be totally misinterpreted. Anyway, the latest expansion pack, Generations, adds items like bunk beds, the ability to have lavish weddings and a solid "midlife crisis" -- which we're guessing means secretaries, overcompensatory sports cars and the ability for children to cry, "Why doesn't daddy love us anymore?" in Simlish.

The focus of the expansion pack is to elaborate on the different stages of life, across childhood, teen and adult years. No word yet if the "bachelor parties" available in the game will allow for burying the "entertainment" in the desert when things go wrong. What? Everyone experiences that at least once in real life.

@Private Awesome - I just want University (I doubt high school in this will deliver the same experience). Pets is good but never seems like there's enough content for full price retail, though. Maybe if they included cows, monkeys, and sharks though.

Ah, I see why they've been holding off on Pets, this one is also being released for the consoles.

@Bryan H Any guess as to whether it will be DLC or a stand-alone game like other Sims "expansions" have been for consoles?
I hope it's stand-alone and they add in local multiplayer. Local multiplayer was the only thing I liked about Sims on the console. Getting rid of it was kind of a bummer.

My 15 year old sister stopped playing them, so I just assumed they stopped making them. I guess she grew up is all.

Honestly I had no idea. The only person I knew who played them was my little sister, and she grew too old for them.
I guess I need to have a daughter and then I'll probably know more about the series.

DLC packages on Sims 3 on consoles are awful.

You haven't played TS3, have you? It's the most different one of the three (for me, it's the first time the series is actually fun).

But hey, it's not the internet until you have people complaining about games they've never played!

Well usually 16 year old girls follow the masses. I figured that by that stage, everyone would have given up on games like The Sims and started playing better ones.

The Sims never got through me. I've played the first one (with all its glorious 5 expansion packs) and yet, the funniest thing to do was pausing the game, building four walls around your character, speed the game up to max and watch. Nothing beats watching that fast-motion avatar taking several dumps on the corner before he died.

Every time I hear some one complaining that they're having a bad day, I have to assume someone or thing is playing a "SIMS" type game on a galactic scale, enjoying the hell out of watching the hilarity of bad fortune.

I had no idea people were so for The Sims, let alone that it was still a popular series!

Or is this like Second Life? A rather large, scary and horrific group of players that defend their product to death whilst everyone else looks on and laugh.

@VeeDeeVee Sims 3 sold 4.6 million copies to date. Sims 3: World adventures was the 8th best selling game of 2009. Infact Sims3 Proper of that year sold more than the Lich King expansion for WoW. (Retail Boxes only for that measurement)

TS3 is just as entertaining as Animal Crossing, TBH. Previous games were "bleh", but the third game's actually fun, hence why I like it.

It's not really a "girly" game unless you actually play it like it. If you want to you can be a jerkass and kill pregnant women and little girls.

I'm buying this day one and I am a "hardcore" gamer, more than most console gamers here, tee hee.

Saw the trailer for this and had no idea what they were trying to sell me, and uh my girlfriend. The official website explains it better, but as a trailer it looks really weak.

Now make the police not so damn psychic about kids out after curfew.
