Sega has revealed a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog game via Sonic's Facebook page (Dr. Robotnik friend request -- rejected). A short teaser trailer depicts Sonic running through a sparsely colored sequence of checkered hills and loops, before meeting up with an old pal. Classic Sonic is back, pudge and all! Also, we hate to worry you, but it looks like he's been cloning himself.
The game is expected to arrive on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sometime in 2011. We're sure to see more before the blue speed demon's 20th birthday.

On first guess -- a "MICKEY MANIA" type game where current Sonic meets his former iteration and realizes the error of his ways.
SPOILER ALERT: In the ending, Sonic 2006 and the Were-Hog are officially tossed in the same landfill as that E.T. game decades ago.

Going by every Sonic storyline ever written:
There's some Time-God/Monster which Dr.Eggman is using to take over the world, or "build Eggmanland" as they seem to have sanitized it to now. Eggman uses the time-god-monster to make time itself fold into itself, throwing New Sonic and Old Sonic into some Final Fantasy VIII-like time-compression world. And some-how by defeating the time-god-monster thing, the universe is saved and Old Sonic goes into a depression seeing how badly SEGA is going to treat him over the next 20 years of his existence. Perhaps there'll also be some sort of Old Eggman and New Eggman team-up in some ridiculous way.

eggman has torn a hole in the fabric of time with some device to collaborate with himself in the past and needs the chaos emeralds to unleash its full power and complete his plan to control the universe. sonic finds a chaos emerald and uses it to communicate with himself in the past and together they must collect the chaos emeralds to stop both of the evil doctors! (enter co-op?) pretty much spider-man edge of time with sonic?
oh and big the cat will play a huge role...

YES~! I liked what Sega's been doing with (Most) Sonic games so far (unleashed (daytime),Rush series, and Sonic 4 to a degree)
And It's good to see they are bringing Back Classic/Retro Sonic from The Sonic games before Sonic Adventure. I been missing that little guy.
Lets hope Sega has learned from their past few games flaws.

Only it's not a joke. It's real, people fall for this over and over again.
It's even got to the point where people thought Sonic Colours was a good game. Sonic fans will now just roll over and accept "just barely mediocre" from SEGA. At least the die-hard 'classic Final Fantasy' fans ditched the series soon after they realised 'new Final Fantasy' was the way forward for the series. Sonic fans might need to think about doing the same.

The Sonic Cycle was funny the first 300 times, back when it was relevant.
Reviewers didn't 'slam' Sonic Colours, nor Sonic 4 for that matter. Even if Sonic 4 was a bit of a derp, Colours is a good game in it's own right.
to quote Mach2 further down the page:
"Sorry buddy, this post is one game too late."

Classic Sonic? Complete with skin-colored eyelids?
I don't think they've realized, truly, what they've done. I hope their bank accounts and accountants are prepared from the Sonic hordes that will buy this game on principle alone.
Me included. So glad I just bought a 360.

How to make a successful Sonic game:
1) Remake Sonic 1 in 3D
2) Remake Sonic 2 in 3D
3) Remake Sonic 3 in 3D
4) Add no new characters

Sonic games in the last decade have begun to feel like Lucy holding a football.
Sega keeps promising a "return to basics" approach to the franchise. Every goddamned time. Yet every time they f*ck it up.
I remember when I first saw the opening side-scrolling level of Sonic Unleashed. It looked...awesome. Then I played the demo of that same level, and couldn't believe it. It WAS awesome.
But then the game was released. And there were those awful werewolf sections that took the better part of an hour to slog through. Because nothing screams "Sonic the Hedgehog" like moving really slowly and punching things in the face.
And then comes Sonic 4. Sega insisted that this was a true sequel to the Genesis games, hence the title...only they completely changed the game's physics. It took Sonic way too long to get up to speed, and much of the game's level design required Sonic to stop moving and solve an environmental puzzle. Ugh.
So here we are again. Another year, another hollow promise from Sega (though, to be fair, I didn't play either of the Sonic Colors games on DS and Wii...from what I heard, they weren't half-bad).
I have such a soft spot for the old Genesis Sonic games, that I can't help but get my hopes up, year after year. I keep telling myself that this will be the year that turns things around. This will be the year that rights the ship.
Sigh. Please don't disappoint me again, Sega. It's hard enough dealing with the yearly disappointment that goes along with being a diehard Redskins fan. Your shitty Sonic revivals certainly aren't helping matters.
