If you're uncomfortable with GameStop's tenacity as it pursues your reservations and trade-ins, you'll probably be displeased to learn that "pre-order pokes" could be coming in the near future. The gargantuan games retailer recently opened up a Facebook storefront, through which shoppers can purchase and reserve titles, view trailers and screenshot galleries and, in the near future, earn and redeem PowerUp Rewards points.
Between this and GameStop's recent acquisition of Impulse and Spawn Labs, it seems the retailer's taking its new digital strategy pretty seriously. We wouldn't be surprised to see if the company adopted a presence on LiveJournal, as well. We'd be curious to learn what its mood is like on a day-to-day basis, as well as what hot bands it's totally into right now.

Seriously. You know, Gamestop gets a LOT of hate for ruining the gaming industry with used game sales, but I personally hate them for another reason entirely: They never actually have the pre-order bonus.
They so much noise about pre-ordering to get an exclusive figure, hat, shirt, etc. yet never seem to have the stuff! WTF is the point of pre-ordering ask you?! Can't be for the games. I mean when was the last time you couldn't walk into a store and pick up a game you wanted? Yeah exactly.
Kinda reminds me of this old Seinfeld clip:

@NaeemTHM You should then bring it up with their Manager or District manager, any Preordered Items are for Preordered copies only and their copy is only held for 48 hours.
Where I work, we make sure the Customers get their copies/preorder items, if it's past the 48 hours, we then check the list and call each on that hasn't yet picked it up and make sure they are or if they won't be able to for a while and want us to sell it until they can.
I wish other stores would do this, I know in our area we make sure the Customer is 100% priority and make sure everything is ready for them to pickup, I hope to see GameStop in general change somethings up a little. With this Portal 2 pre-order getting $5 off or buying Bulletstorm you get $5 off your Gears of War 3 is a least a step in the right direction. I might just create a long list an send it on into corporate and hope to hear a respond about it or see some changes to make the customers experience 10x better then it is now.

No you know what I hate? Pre-order bonuses that affect game play (a cool hat or item that has nothing to do with game play is fine) anything that alters your character in game because you pre-ordered it at 1 location over another is stupid. It should be done away with and if I ever made a game (and don't worry I can't) I wouldn't allow it to happen.

@eat it I have gotten very much into their games in the past. I dont like the fact that Gabe constantly dicks around with his console fans, showing that consoles are there to fund his pet pc projects.
So I am certainly looking forward to Portal 2's inevitable failure. I think they have put a lot of money into it should be an enjoyable burn.

I game on everything, but as someone who spends a lot of their time/effort/money on their PC, it's nice to see the system be treated with respect. The reason so many people like Valve is that UNLIKE most other developers, they dev for PC first and consoles later. Console gamers aren't used to getting the short end of the stick, and to be fair, no one should have to, but Valve's love stems from the fact that they DON'T treat PC gamers like second class citizens.
Also good to note, there are reasons that their console ports are inferior to their PC counterparts. XBL inhibits them from updating their games frequently with new content, because of MS's stranglehold on the system. PS3 does not do this, but Valve was unfamiliar with PS3 architecture and unwilling to allow 3rd parties to port their games after past mishaps (with Half Life on PS2 and the Orange Box on PS3); because of this, they chose to release no product at all, rather than a subpar one.
Overall, it comes down to their philosophy. They absolutely refuse to release games if they deem them of substandard quality. This is why there is no Episode 3 yet, this is why no game has appeared on PS3 until they could code it themselves with Portal 2, and this is why they have such a large following. You can always expect a high quality product from Valve.

no. not really. but nice try. I only own a PS3 because I don't really have the time for anything more. if I had a good PC or a working 360 I'd probably post in those sections too. get this... I even owned a wii at one point! gasp!
I've played both left for dead games plenty at friends' houses. I played portal on PS3 it was cute, with all of it's quotable lines, but I think the few hours that I played it were enough. I think a lot of people are going to get bored with portal 2. I did play play half life back in the day. meh.
my biggest gripe with their games is that it feels like you are moving a camera around on a dolly. In a first person game or third person I think there should be some bounce to the camera to simulate walking or running. when it's prefectly smooth it may as well be doom. that, and most of their games seem very sterile to me
what other games, oh they made counterstrike right? it was ok. nothing to write home about.

Counterstrike.
Nothing to write home about.
http://store.steampowered.com/stats care to read back to me the 2 most played games on Steam? Just because you don't like these games doesn't mean they're not important. Heck even the FPS console gamers celebrate nonstop (COD) is just a visually polished up Counterstrike with levelling up. Very important game.
To disregard Valve is to be very silly indeed.

You have to admit, Gamestop is being aggressive in trying to promote themselves. The Facebook thing is going to far though. I just had to unsubscribe from their emails. There were just too many of them, probably three each day. I don't want my newsfeed filled with worthless crap and games I already own. If they were just going to post about bonus trade in weekends, well that's a different story.

So now we are going to have some pop up that says "Is there anything coming out you want to reserve?" and it will have a selection of games that it thinks are popular and nobody could be a gamer and not play with a "I don't want to reserve anything at this time." button hidden off the screen. ARE you SURE there is nothing coming out?! the new call of halo is just around the corner!!! I go to other game stores for a reason lol.

The worst thing about gamestop aside from their horrible trade ins and persistance that your preorder,...is there annoying ass employees. I've been made fun or feel awkward many times when buying game there. Especially when you buy used games they like laugh at me. That is not good customer service lol.

@Patricio87 look said employee in the eyes and say this:
"Laugh at me will you? Look at your pathetic shell of an existence you wage slave. You work in a retail store for minimum human worth where some mouth breather tells you to shuck and jive those preorders every second. The only people who look up to you are pre-pubescent children whose sacks havent dropped yet and tree sloths whose skin is burned by the light.
You might as well be selling Justin Beiber posters at 21 Forever you miserable excuse for a botched abortion."
