New Battlefield 3 assets go behind-the-scenes

If you're of the opinion that the visuals presented in Battlefield 3 are the result of some kind of forbidden voodoo magic, EA and DICE have evidence to prove otherwise. Check out the gallery below for a ton of concept art, renders and other behind-the-scenes looks at how the sausage gets made.

I for one, know that only voodoo magic of the darkest kind could produce such a magical looking game.

The smoke particle effects look amazing. Hope it looks as good in multiplayer using an Engineer to "remove" a wall pesky snipers like to hide behind when ducking away from windows.

I've been putting off buying a new video card, trying to suck every last ounce of performance out of my HD4870, but with BF3 and Skyrim coming out, I'm not sure that there is anything left in the tank (not to mention that the card can't do DX11, and both games are likely to have DX11 features).
Is it worth it to put $150 (after MIR) into a 6850 now, in anticipation of those releases in November, or should I wait? What say you, habitual PC upgraders? Is there something better (at the same price) in the pipeline for Q3-Q4? The only thing I'm likely to play on the PC between now and then is Portal 2, and since it is source-based, I doubt I'd need the extra power for it anyway.

I'm going to have to think this one over. $140 is tempting, considering that the card destroys this HD4870 (that I paid 250+ for only a few years ago) but I'd hate to buy it and have the next series come out and drop the prices across the board on me. Then again, the 6870 series doesn't seem to be that much more powerful than the 6850 series, so it's not as if AMD has a lot of room to maneuver cards around, in terms of price.
My only hangup right now is whether or not my old 430w PSU is going to be able to handle the new card. The 4870 works, but I'm not sure I want to risk having to buy a new PSU if the 6850 pushes it over the edge. I'm not planning to spend another cent on PC components (other than a vid card) until I upgrade to Sandy Bridge sometime in early 2012, and I'd hate to have to spend $100 on something that has no other function than to power my rig (when I could spend $100 on...you know...booze)

What is up with the floating balls? I get that they represent something more than floating balls, like area of effect or something... but for what?
