While Funcom's Ragnar Tørnquist is currently banging away on upcoming MMO The Secret World, he recently told Eurogamer that he'd like to return to beloved adventure series The Longest Journey. "I always have other ideas for the future," said Tørnquist, adding that a sequel to Dreamfall: The Longest Journey is something he "tinkers" with and is "absolutely possible." Of course, Tørnquist said the same thing back in 2008, so we're not holding our breath.
Now, if we can just find a suitable guide for the first Longest Journey, we might actually be able to finish it before the new sequel arrives. These puzzles are hard!

I don't know what it was about that game. It just totally sucked me in. I loved it. I can't even properly explain why.
Yeah, some of puzzles were RIDICULOUS.

@Funkmaster General I drove halfway across town to get this game as it was listed online and when I got to the GameStop the jerk working there had already "hid" it somewhere for himself to buy. I called in advance but an unknowing employee told me they had it. I got there he could not find it, after looking around he went to the back and I heard him ask the other dude if he had seen it and he was like 'yea I saw it by the register and put it *muffled muffled muffled* with (shitload of other rare games like Morrowind)' so I hope they make a remake for it so I can finally play it. sigh.

That totally sucks, but you can get it from gog.com as a download. That is how I played it.

I LOVED TLJ & Dreamfall but a conclusion has been teased for so long that I'm finding it more difficult to care with each passing year.

I know that last line is your required "bit 'o funny," but for anyone who really does want some help with this game or others like it, check out the Universal Hint System. It's like those old hintbooks you used to be able to buy - it gives you little hints one at a time rather than spelling out the answer immediately like you find so often on GameFAQs.
Here's the UHS for The Longest Journey: http://www.uhs-hints.com/uhsweb/hints/tlj/1-2.php

I adore this series, even though Dreamfall suffered in some areas and left so many things unfinished. I remember when he discussed releasing a sequel in episodic format, but apparently that amounted to nothing so not holding my breath this will lead to an announcement anytime soon. With that said it's one of those series I could wait for 50 years and I would still pre-order a sequel instantly if it was announced.
(Please don't make me wait 50 years Ragnar.)

What's so hard about combing a rope, a clamp, and a slowly-deflating rubber duck? It makes perfect sense!

Dreamfall was a pretty disappointing experience in almost every way... just a bad game. I still adore the original.

TLJ is definitely in my top 10 favorite games of all time. Zoe is one of the most amazingly portrayed female antagonists in gaming.

The Longest Journey had a few weird/annoying puzzles near the start, but it wasn't that bad later.
The worst (pixel-huntiest & trial-n-errorest) for me had to be the pipeworks & inflatable ducky ones, I think if you clear those, you can get by without a guide.

The problem is that Dreamfall had such an extraordinally dense ending that people have already forgotten what the hell happened.
But yeah, closure is needed, and Ragnar has said it will always happen - worse comes to worse, he's going to do it as a novel, if absolutely no one will fund it as a game.

I'd undoubtedly buy TLJ3, but I feel like Dreamfall's ending makes the wait very frustrating. You can't end things the way they did and spend years saying "well, you MAY find out after I'm finished with my next game". I understand that Ragnar is busy and funding is rough, but that "Lost" style of storytelling is a very poor match with the game's up-in-the-air nature. Even Shenmue felt somewhat self-contained.

I seem to be the opposite of many of the people here. I had a hard time getting into TLJ, but really liked Dreamfall. I tried to play TLJ again, but the puzzles are so unintuitive that it just couldn't keep my interest. I felt like the only way I'd be able to get through it is if someone (or some guide) held my hand, and that turned me off quite a bit.
Dreamfall was the opposite. I liked the characters, the story, the atmosphere, etc... but the ending left a lot unsaid. I really hope he does put out a sequel, but like others have said... my interest in the series is fading. C'mon Ragnar! You owe us an ending! :)

April Ryan still feels like a real person to me after all these years. One of the best protagonist of any medium for me. TLJ was really something special.

God, if only this would happen. I loved both TLJ and Dreamfall. Sadly, I lost one of the discs to TLJ! So, I just bought it again on GOG, because that site is awesome. Seriously, that was the last adventure game to have an awesome story and good gameplay.

At this point I've given up all hope of any closure for this story. Funcom will go out of business before we see a sequel, the first game is still an enthralling experience that I would recommend anyone playthrough.
