SSX dev diary finally shows off the tricks of the trade

Okay, we've heard a lot about EA Canada's upcoming SSX (née Deadly Descents) -- but somewhat inexplicably, we haven't heard a lot about the sweet tricks therein. Fortunately, that ever-important mortar that holds the franchise together is discussed in great detail in the dev diary posted below.

YES. THIS IS WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR.

I'm so psyched. This is definitely what I was hoping for from a new SSX. Deadly Descents did not look like fun from the trailer that they released before. I can't wait for this!

Looks different than that gritty realism implied by the trailer and the title, which i am not complaining about one bit.

I do snowboard all winter that's why I want a realistic game and by the way Shaun whites game blows like I said the best snowboard game is stoked if your a true rider go get it and you'll understand and I'm not trying to hate if you like this kind of game then fine I'm just sick of the fantasy stuff just like Tony hawks games got old and skate came in we need the same to happen for snowboarding

I'm not trying to hate I just think fantasy snowboarding is getting old and the Shaun white game was terrible

@Ztree360 I think the problem w/ making it like Skate is that it can't be the same kind of open world. In skateboarding, you are constantly skateboarding, while you we snowboard, there is your run, then waiting to get back up the run, whether it's walking or the lift. The Skate formula would probably not work well. As for a realistic SB game, the reason other people started making more boarding games is because of how well SSX did. You should hope that this sparks up the snowboarding interest in games again and someone will see the need for a realistic game to contrast SSX.

Make no mistake, for them to go to this much trouble to keep us informed, they must also be gauging the response on blogs like this one.
I really appreciate the time they have taken to address these points and get back in touch with what made the series so awesome in the first place.
In short I am now interested.

@Ducarta I came on here to post this exact same sentiment. They went from 'no chance in hell am I buying this game' to 'day one purchase'.

@Ducarta I'm still a little apprehensive with the flying suits and the ice pick wall climbing stuff. But this does look like it's moving in a better direction. Still, I'm waiting to see some actual gameplay to see if they actually dropped the "dark & gritty" style from the original trailer. I've heard the "we listened to the fans" speech a million times but rarely do you see a response in the end product.

So they abandoned the "Deadly Descents" subtitle? Well done.

Never played a Snowboarding game before.
Looking forward to this one, though. Looks pretty neat. :)

You should check out previous SSX games. Tricky and 3 are my two favorite.

ok, the game looks really cool, but, does the talking dude remind anyone else of the boss from Party Down?

I am glad that this is still going in a crazy over the top direction. The idea of removing jankiness with things like the ice axes(?) is also a great direction to go in (hopefully it doesn't somehow end up breaking things, though).
If this all goes as planned, and the new features don't end up diluting core features like racing, I can see this as being one of my few day-1 purchases
So long as there's couch co-op. Couch co-op is in this, right?

YES! best clip was at 2:19 where it was actual gameplay from the game. looks similar to old SSX games but crisper! i know there will be more gameplay vids before release, but after that i'm much more likely to pre-order it than after watching the "deadly descents" trailer which turned me off.
the only original xbox game i play on my xbox 360 is SSX3, so i'm looking forward to a worthy SSX game for current gen consoles to fill up my screen.

It still doesn't show HOW you do the tricks. The trick stick was fail in SSX on Tour and the Skate oriented trick stick is definitely not the way to go. They need to go back to what worked, SSX 3's controls.

Never played on tour before, from the sounds of this I'm glad I didn't.

I hope they lighten up on the character designs a little. That first guy looked like Master Chief on a snowboard. Just give me some Mac and Kaori looking reasonable and I'll be happy.

I could not be more stoked to see they are listening to the gamers on this one. I will definitely be pre-ordering, as SSX Tricky was the best game to ever grace the XBOX console. Woohoo!!!
