First they had no plans for a p.c. version of SSFIV, and the DLC of resident 5, now they don´t have plans for a conversion of one of the must popular franchises they have for the american market, and it´s for one of the biggest platforms out there the NDS. does capcom hates money or what??

Signed it, I'd kind of like a European release as well, importing from America is ridiculously expensive for a student like myself.

I still doubt that if Capcom is against a western release, 1700 signatures are going to make a difference though...keep signing you guys!

Thanks for the link! Just signed the petition.
Although I really doubt that they will not release it stateside.. All of the other games in the Ace Attorney series were released in the US and it's not like it's not popular.

Also, I'm a bit confused...
In the Japanese releases, isn't there an English language option?
I know, I know.. "We still have to import it" even if the feature exists. Just curious.

That option only exists in the first three games, and also the translation isn't as good as the official English release. It would have been better then nothing I suppose.

If what companies said had any correlation to what they actually do, then I would be concerned.

We are of course talking about a franchise that has made them a decent chunk of pocket change so there is little doubt they will be localizing it. Regardless of what they are saying now.

Honestly I think this whole "no current plans to localize schtick" Is little more than marketing to drive public outcry for a game that they have every intention of localizing regardless.

Having worked on numerous games, I can tell you two things:

1) Localization is one of the least favorite tasks for game developers - and often is put off until the last minute
2) Localization is made worse when companies don't plan for it at the start of the project.

Basically, if a game doesn't plan for localization in the start, it usually costs a lot to do and is done wrong.

Sucks to see though.

That argument would work a hell of a lot better if a) Capcom hadn't previously localized games running on more or less (if not the exact) same engine, or b) if this was any other studio than Capcom, or c) this was 1992 and the concept of "resource files" was a quaint novelty in the programming world instead of the de-facto standard that it is today.

I really don't buy that.

The AA games have a pretty dedicated fanbase that has done fan-translations before.

Capcom could just ask for volunteers to do it for free and they'd probably get hundreds. Make them sign a contract stating they agree to waive rights/royalties/whatever and the problem is solved.

And not only that, but given the awesome track record that this series has in terms of localizations, Capcom's stalling is quite odd. I wonder if the first Investigations game didn't sell very well?

Capcom has been pretty terrible lately. It seems all they care about now are fighting games.

This better not be a sign that Wright X Layton will not come to US as well.

I gotta admit, as much as I love the Ace Attorney games (and Gumshoe is my favorite character!!), the Edgeworth one didn't seem that good to me.

Have you tried it? It's a very similar experience to the previous games int he series, and with the possible exception of the 3rd game) the best in the franchise. If you enjoyed the previous ones, definitely grab it.

@Vesuvium Yeah, I bought Ace Attorney Investigations shortly after it came out, and I got to the middle of the last trial before I ended up moving onto other games.

None of the trials were nearly as memorable as the ones in the original three, imo...

Well then Capcom, I won't be converting any of my Dollars as Yen. How'd you like that?!

You would think that they are doing this as a publicity stunt to get more attention (as did happen with the other titles) and then have the game come out with a higher price point and people thanking them for the gift that is what should have happened.

Capcom means Apple in some alien language I'm sure

I actually just started a new game of Ace Attorney Investigations a few days ago, in anticipation of the localised sequel...and then I hear this. D:

There are fans though, fans that will translate this themselves if determined enough.
Did you know there's fan-translations of the GBA Gyakuten Saiban games?

Thank God someone at Capcom has some goddamned sense.

Maybe now they'll pool their resources to develop the Dark Void sequel everyone has been clamoring for.

Or maybe they can run the Lost Planet franchise a little further into the ground.

Or maybe a continuation of the Bionic Commando reboot. Because that was a hit.

Or maybe, Capcom, just maybe, you can just localize the next game in one of the few franchises that you haven't slathered in flaming dogshit. Like Ace Attorney Investigations.

Or not...I mean, what do I know? Maybe just crank out another Rocketmen: Blah Blah Axis of Blah Blah for XBLA/PSN. I'd hate to tell a multinational company how to properly buttf*ck themselves.
