Announced during Capcom's Captivate event – in Miami this year! – Dragon's Dogma is billed as "a unique action experience that blends exciting and fulfilling combat with the freedom to explore and interact in a rich, living and breathing world." Oh, that world is also "open." Your party of three must "track down and destroy a mysterious dragon," but there will be plenty of other critters to slay on your journey.
It shouldn't be a surprise that Capcom is tying DD's lineage to two of its most successful action titles; the press release says it's from "the creators behind some of Capcom's best action games" including Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 4. Those creators include producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi and director Hideaki Itsuno. The new game is being built on an "enhanced" version of the company's already impressive MT Framework engine (think: Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2) and will track down and destroy your Xbox 360 or PS3 some time in "early 2012."
@vmenge Capcom seems to be showing more love to the PC than it has in the past. Or at least thats how it has appeared over the last few years. I could see this getting tossed onto PC as well, though it might be down the road.
Am I the only one that noticed the terrible framerate of this video? Im suspecting that has something to do with this game running at 30fps.
@Draugdraugr It's probably less that they are "showing the PC more love," and more that they made sure their MT Framework engine really works well across PC, PS3, and 360. From what I've read, there is basically no effort to make a game across all three platforms with the engine. In fact, I think the way it was described was more like you don't make a game in this engine for one platform and then port it to the others, you just make a game in MT Framework and it already works on all three platforms, no optimization needed.
The only thing they'd have to do (if I'm not mistaken, of course) is add customizable controls for the PC versionx
Yeah, I was about to post the same thing. F you Capcom, for treating us BoF fans like waste. There's like a billion Capcom characters in MvsC3, but nothing from BoF. And then this whole thing. It's like a kick in the balls to us. It's like we don't even exist to them anymore.
In fact I bet there was some guy there at Capcom going all "hah, let's get their hopes up with some new dragon-related game with a BoF-ish logo, those suckers". Argh. So pissed off.
Love the premise, and Capcom makes good games, but I'm a but skeptical because Capcom games are usually arcade-ey in feel. It's hard to imagine them doing a truly open world fantasy game, but here's hopinh it turns out as good as it sounds.
Go figure. People bitch and moan about DLC for exisiting franchises. They bitch and moan about too many sequels. They bitch and moan about the lack of new IP's.
Capcom announces a new IP, and people bitch and moan that it's not a sequel to Breath of Fire.
Hey, us BoF fans have every right to bitch. We've been waiting for a new game for 6 years now, but Capcom insists on pretending the franchise never even existed. Every insignificant character from every game they've ever made has gotten a cameo in MvsC or TvsC, but nothing from BoF. It's like they spit on us, and now they get our hopes up with some dragon game, and again, nothing.
The only problem I have with this is that Capcom is calling Devil May Cry 4 one of their best action games... Wake up Capcom. Hopefully it's fully playable as a single player game because multi-player interests me not.
Omg...Could this be a more mature version of Monster Hunter? If it can blend the feel of MH with the fully open world that would be an incredible experience. Hopefully it's Multiplayer and not just you + 2 NPCs
@Dukeun The game plays a lot different than any other game. It looks to have 4 player multiplayer AT LEAST. Combat is fast paced, no auto attack, proper animation (not like oblivion or fallouts tank like movement), Many many creatures to hunt (I'm sure we'll see more and more as time gets closer). Bottom line is this game already shapes up to be epic as hell. I was thinking it was going to be a BoF game to which I thought was awesome, but this game totally exceeds my expectations by FAR.
So HERE's my soul, $60, and maybe a fierce handy J to go along with it Cappycom!!!!!!!! =D
I was 'Meh' until he climbed up on that gryphon all Shadow of the Colossus style. I am officially interested! The second video impressed me too, apart from when he was eaten, fell out and seemed to have no animation between falling and walking backwards while shooting. But that should be fixed later, I assume.
From the creators behind some of Capcom’s best action games, including the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 4, comes their next opus, Dragon’s Dogma. Set in a huge open world, Dragon’s Dogma is a unique action experience that blends exciting and fulfilling combat with the freedom to explore and interact in a rich, living and breathing world. With your party of three you set out on an epic adventure to track down and destroy a mysterious dragon. Along the way you’ll encounter some of the biggest and baddest beasts ever to roam the land, and only skilful play and tactical teamwork can save the day.
