'Tis officially the E3 season. Sony today announced plans to hold its E3 press conference on Monday, June 6, at 5PM (PT) in the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. The "save the date" note (pictured) doesn't mention if a live stream will be available online for the event nor does it reveal any further details.
The event would be the perfect time for an NGP (real) naming ceremony and pricing announcement. Perhaps a PS3 price cut, too? Who knows? Maybe Sony's going to go all out and finally end the Home "open beta," humanely.

I predict a resurgence of the "599 U.S. dollars" meme when the NGP price is announced.

@ItsameMatt03 I really doubt it will cost that much.
It's really just tablet parts made into a handheld. Being that much off the shelf has got to reduce costs down to a manageable level.

Well, everybody from gamers to analysts said the PS3 wouldn't cost more than $299 and well...
They are packing an impressive array of tech in the NGP, and I'm afraid it's going to be at a high price. Sony even has stated that they intended to price the PS3 at $500 and $600 in the first place simply to display the value, and they said they wouldn't have changed anything about the way they handled it. I'll say they will go with a similar strategy with the NGP.

That was no mere meme. That was a horrible, horrible reality that no gamer should ever have to suffer through again.

@ItsameMatt03 I don't think they intended to price it as $599, that's what they had to sell it at to reduce the loss. there was a damn good reason it dropped in price so fast. The Cell and BD-rom were way under yield and very expensive at the time.
The NGP doesn't have the same downfall. The parts will shortly be in other products, and are based on established tech. Neither the Cell or BD-rom had that luxury at the time, both were quite new technologies.

DS games are pretty much $30 new with Nintendo titles hitting $35 and Square titles sitting pretty at $40.

And because you can really enjoy your game on a 5 inch screen vs 52 inch screen at home with 3D build in. You can take advantage of Move controller also.
There is more value in a PS3 game then in NGP one.

I'm with you. This years E3 is going to be particularly interesting for Nintendo. With both Sony and Microsoft entering the motion-control scene, Nintendo is bound to announce something insane.
...*sigh* who am I kidding. They're going to announce Wii Garden: NOW WITH REALISTIC HOE ATTACHMENT!

I'm taking the day off work, myself. Traditionally Monday morning is the Microsoft press event. Sony usually waits for Tuesday, but I guess they feel the need to get things started a day early this year.
So with all the press coverage between the two pressers happening the same day, it's going to be too maddening to go to work and try to keep up with everything all at the same time.

If Nintendo shows off their heart rate monitor peripheral by attaching it to a bunch of hot chicks like they did with the 3DS, things could get embarrassing for the test subjects...

Why do you want to kill Home so much?
Goddamn, the unwarranted hate for Home has gotten really annoying.
1. It works well for what it's intended to do.
2. it makes Sony boatloads of cashmoney

Just announce it now and get it over with. Next Gen Portable might be the lamest and least creative code name for a new device ever. I already call it the PSP2 anyways.

I enjoy E3 week. I'm gonna be on vacation from work that whole week
Sony last few conferences have been good. I hope they announce/show a lot of stuff. I wanna see a PS3 Syphon Filter and I wanna see some Agent footage.
I honestly can't wait to see what the big 3 has in store for the future and what games are gonna be announced there as well.

Wow isn't this a change for Sony? Didn't they always in past years have their press conference on the Tuesday of E3 week? (If so, that is a good thing because now alot more people will go to the press conference instead of the show floor.)

So Sony is going first this year? Or is MS going on early & then Sony later on so Nintendo can have their own day?

I hope they don't spend a lot of time talking about Infamous 2 since it will only be 24 hrs till release. Spend that time talking about something new and exciting, or maybe more Uncharted 3!

Agreed. The new handhelds will probably dominate both Nintendo's and Sony's presentations, with MS likely focusing on Kinect.
Hmmm.
Now that I think about it, this might not be the most exciting E3 if it pans out like I'm imagining... I'm sure there will be some surprises in there.
