Yeah, the Captivate Embargo lifts tomorrowish. My guess is AE for DLC and Disc (probably with all costumes, like a GOTY pack) and for PC.

"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

I bought the "original" Street Fighter 4 about a month after launch for what I thought then was a decent deal at $45. When Super was released, I swore I wouldn't give in, but ended up getting it when it dropped to $25. I've had enough. I'm a big Street Fighter fan. Moreso with 2 which i still play every so often to this day. But even I'm done. In my own little meaningless way, I've decided to let my frustrations known. I've decided not to buy a game from Capcom again until this BS stops. I'll gamefly Capcom games or consider buying them used, but Capcom will no longer get a direct cent from me.

Why did I ever believe Capcom when they said they wouldn't release 3/4/5 different versions of Street Fighter 4?

I mean, a $15 DLC pack is one thing (and overpriced), but $40 for the same game...a 3rd time?

@216 Eh? 15 $ ??? No way. Capcom and its financial tricks sux!

If this ever (and it will be.. sadly) to be successful, then we can expect for, SSFIV Ultra
SSFIV New Challengers
SSFIV Hyper Edition
SSFIV (put any fancy name here) edition.

Etc...

They really think that we are that FOOL!?

I'm not sure if $15 is "overpriced" based on the standard set by SSFIV. That disc was sold for $40 dollars and include, what, eight or ten new characters? 5 bucks each basically, plus some online features. If this is $15 dollars for 4 new characters and some online features than it's basically the same price.

Same deal as the CoD map packs. If you're willing to pay that price once, you can never complain when it becomes the standard.

Oh, be quiet. You act like you're being forced to buy it a third time.

I'm not buying the DLC. 35 characters is enough for me. I'm not going to sit there and complain about the disc release, either, because I happen to have enough brains to realize that, as the owner of a copy of SSFIV, I'm not the target audience there. I fear for the sanity of anyone who already owns an iteration of this game and still goes out and purchases a copy of SSFIVA.

You do know why they are doing this, its to ruin any value in the 2nd hand market.
No one will buy used Capcom games at a reasonable price if half the game is sitting on a hard disk or the new version is out (how much would you pay for a used PES 10?)

You tell that to all the EVO people and other tourney players. They basically have to use AE since all tourneys are going to use AE from now on.
You basically have to buy AE else all the combos and such you learn wont match up due to the new people and balance changes.

I held off on original SF4 for some reason, then heard about Super SF4. Then I just got lazy (and busy with other games) that I just kept putting off buying SSF4.

Now I'm glad I did.

(Of course, I'm old enough to remember Street Fighter 2 and all of its re-releases as they were coming out. Nothing changes.)

Was there this much crankiness from gamers about "Super Turbo" and Alpha 3 and SFIII?

I swear people act like this was a new thing, and don't be crowing about game prices either, those games were pretty expensive too.

It kinda went something like this...

Street Fighter 2: Hyper Fighting (SNES) - Genesis owners complained that they didn't get it

Street Fighter 2: Championship Edition (Genesis) - SNES owners complained about not getting the bosses

Street Fighter 2: Turbo (SNES) - Genesis owners complained about not getting the new moveset or costumes. SNES paid $49.99 for 4 new characters plus new colors/moves for old ones.

Super Street Fighter 2 (SNES/Genesis) - Decent on the SNES. Genesis owners wondered why their version was slower and with crappier graphics/sound. Owners paid $49.99 again for 4 new characters plus new colors/moves for existing ones.

Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo (32-bit systems) - SNES/Genesis owners complained about not getting Akuma, Evil Ryu (rumor only) and so-called "super death moves." Saturn/PS1 owners complain about slow loading times. All went back to playing 16-bit versions of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (in which Sheeva was missing and Rain/Noob couldn't do their finishing moves).

Capcom laughs all the way the bank, while they prepare Mega Man X3 for a multi-console launch.

I was under the impression that Super Street Fighter II Turbo nearly bankrupted Capcom due to poor sales. Guess there's only so many times you can do an iterative update of a series.

Enough!

You have swindeled money with SUPER SF IV. You promised that SFIV owners will have goodies with SFIV, and all we got was 2 different colors!

Now you are trying to swindle money by a downloadable content!

Who do you take us for? Ok, we love SF , we love the legacy, But capcom management is pushing it too far!

Unless it is (as DLC) free I am not going to get it, Even I am going to give up playing!

I just wanted to say thanks, Joystiq, for reminding me why I haven't bought Marvel vs Capcom 3 yet. If this turns out to be legit, I think whatever my last Capcom purchase was will be my last Capcom purchase ever.

Paid DLC is one thing if it brings new experiences to a game. I've grabbed all of the major DLC for War for Cybertron, Mass Effect, Gears, and Red Dead. I'm not even that opposed to paid DLC costumes. I wouldn't buy them, but I can see a hardcore fan happily shelling out the cash for that little extra bit of customization that fair weather fans, like myself, just cannot won't accept. Even this might be fine for dedicated SF fans. For me, though, a second $40 update to a game that has been out for years is just asking too much.

Annoyed? Yes. Capcom is proving a weak company when it comes to quantity over quality. Frankly, this is highly common in Japan with games going for the double-dip. I guess there is one thing Capcom was eager to westernize.

BUT...the joy here is Amazon. That $40 disc will be $20 by holidays, and that would shatter even the DLC prices.

Bring it, Capcom. I can wait, and wait, and wait.

I just hope that Netherealm doesn't release an "Ultimate Mortal Kombat 9" six months from now with all the DLC characters on the disc, and exclusive characters that won't be sold via DLC to owners of the original version.

Oh wait... that WILL happen.

You know, I'm not thinking this is being released as the only way to get these characters. I'm thinking it's just being released by Capcom so that people who haven't purchased it yet can get the whole bundle, while people who have already bought the game can simply buy the DLC characters.

That's my theory anyway. Kind of the same thing they did with Resident Evil 5. You could download the DLC or purchase the Gold Edition.

People are complaining for the wrong reason. It's not bad that Super Street Fighter 4 and SSF4 Arcade versions exist.

What's bad is that Capcom is not giving the added features to people who bought the previous versions for free or at least a cheap price. The market has changed for this kind of stuff and Capcom knows that they can provide the additions to players as cheap DLC, but they aren't.

The most I'd pay for new characters is 5 dollars. Anything higher and I say whatever. Obviously that's not the case for a lot of other people cause Capcom keeps doing it. Now that I think about it, I wonder how many people bought Resident Evil 5 versus mode.

@Lerkero Well said. I love the additions, and keeping the game somewhat fresh by adding new stuff and keep supporting it is a great thing, but it is the price and the continuous charging for every little thing that makes this a shady looking practice.

Looking into my Crystal Ballz....

Capcom, happy with the SF4 total sales, decides to release Street Fighter 5....which only sells 255 copies (as everyone awaits the next 'upgrade')... Capcom swears that there will be NO upgrades, but no one believes them, the Boy that cried wolf, I mean Capcom, then cancels any future development of Street Fighter and sells the franchise as a 2 for 1 with KOF to Namco.

My apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but here goes:

Will those who do NOT buy the DLC be able to play with those who do?

Put another way: Will there be a free update that includes balance changes for those who own SSFIV but do not purchase the DLC?

I own SSFIV, but I only play fighters casually, I'm content with the 35 characters in SSFIV (go Juri), and for $15, I could buy Eternal Sonata (or another disc-based title) shipped during the next big sale on Amazon.
