Thankfully I have enough restraint to not sign up for this right now, wii play was a total throwaway... however if they get just 1 mini game worth playing for more than a few minutes then my restraint will be gone I'm sure... waiting for reviews.

Don't even lie, that last mini game Tanks or whatever it was called, was completely worth the other 10 crap games on that disc.

Interestingly, Wii Play and all of its mini game craziness emphasized the pointer aspect of the wiimote above anything else. However I was contemplating acquiring a black wii motion plus remote anyways so this is a no brainer.

Probably when I'll be picking one up. I'm still really hoping that they release a special edition, 3DS bundle with the game to celebrate the anniversary though.

Gold-colored, Triforce-etched 3DS?

They've done it before, for The Minish Cap and Phantom Hourglass.

Sounds like a legitimate reason to dip into the 401K for me. I'd have to buy at least 3 of them to keep the rest of the household hands off or mine.

Being entirely honest - I've somehow managed to get through the years with zero knowledge of Cave Story up to this point... What's the big hubbub with this game? I'm starting to feel shameful as a gamer for having no clue what this game is.

Cave Story is a free (yes free, go download it now) game for PC Mac and Linux that was developed by one Japanese salaryman (Pixel) during his free time. It's a Metroidvania style game with a fairly good story, awesome soundtrack, fun bosses, neat weapons and a very cool upgrade system. People make such a big game of it because it had more creative ideas than nearly every big budget game.

Basically the 3DS game is just an enhanced port, so try the PC one and decide if it's something you want to support/play on a portable.

Also, a link to download the game. Seriously do it: http://www.cavestory.org/downloads_game.php

It's a stylish, retro, metroidvania-type platformer that was made by a single indie developer over 5 years, and released for free for PCs. I think it gets a lot of attention partly because it's creator, Daisuke Amaya (aka Pixel), is awesome for freely sharing something he worked so hard on, and partly because Cave Story is an awesome game. Non-linear gameplay, innovative combat, great graphics and music, deep story, multiple endings, secret dungeons and bosses...

I love Cave Story :)

Sweet June 19th for OoT.

I have a holiday shortly after to Spain; So theres all the traveling to and from places with a re-mastered version of one of my favorite games of all time covered. Summer doesn't get better than this.

Gah! Just realised thats a Sunday. We'd better get it on the 17th (Ala 3DS launch 2 days before the US).

Things would be a hell of alot simpler if i could simply use an ocarina of some form with magical power; to say... tweet out a tune in a specifc order allowing me to speed up time and then rewind back to a specific point (say Day 1 for example) to see how this all turns out for the UK launch date...

If only something like this existed...

Kinda sad how this eliminates the relevance of my reference based pun on my last comment though...

Probably they just don't have any other games ready over the next quarter because they were concentrating on 3DS?

I'd love to think it was an impending new console but I doubt it. Also, even if they did announce a new console at E3, it probably wouldn't be out until a year from now at least so you'd still want a bunch more Wii games. (There's always the new Zelda, eventually...)

It would have to be. I mean even Wii Play+ and Ocarina of Time 3D have been outsourced. Even Pilotwings Resort was outsourced

Nintendo's internal teams have been incredibly quiet lately, which could be indicative either of a 4th quarter blowout or a new console

So basically, the only April titles for the 3DS are:
Raving Rabbids
Tom Clancy Splinter Cell 3D
Dream Trigger 3D

And not much else between now and Ocarina of Time 3D's release. It's like the shovelware companies ganged up like a cartel and forced Nintendo to keep the 3DS releases low so consumers would have to buy the launch list crap in order to use the new hotness hardware.

Ugh, more Ubisoft crap. Dream Trigger looks interesting though, but not for $40.

Considering the system just launched 3 months ago, I doubt they'd do any system variation if you're looking for liek a Triforce branded 3DS. A bundle would put the price tag above $250 so I don't imagine that either.

Would love to be wrong, I just think it's way too early and way too pricey to happen. Doesn't mean retailers won't do bundle deals though.

I think they might because it would be in celebration of the Legend of Zelda anniversary. It wouldn't just be a regular bundle, they would have a good reason to do it. At least, I hope so.

They will do something to recognize the franchise and this seems like a good opportunity. If not, then can we get a special Wii box like the Mario one with a soundtrack CD and some cool extras, along with the previous Zelda games?

I think the 3DS is cool, but it has a while to go before I feel I should get it. Ocarina of Time helps, but somehow I think I'm better off waiting until Christmas.

Or probably because Joystiq had an article on the fact a while back.
In fact, I "tracked down" a GameCube copy of Master Quest the day before that announcement was made and was mildly disappointed when I found this out.

Sad I need to wait till June to actually enjoy my 3DS outside of AR games and Street Fighter. Might pick up Steel Diver... On the upside The Virtual Console launches in May to my understanding. Here's hoping for Link's Awakening DX in 3D is part of the first tittles...

Correction, Link's Awakening was the title Nintendo used to announce the 3D Classics, stating it would be enhanced with "stereoscopic 3D effects" while the bottom screen would display controls. They had also said it was scheduled for the systems launch though which was clearly delayed, so obviously things could have changed.

Obviously they aren't going to be legit 3D probably more of a layering thing like the menus but I remember this being reported a bunch of times when they announced it, at least for zelda. It's a virtual console, no matter how they do it it's still nothing to really get too excited about. Every Wiki about the game talks about it too so I'm not the only one thinking this lmao.

Dude, the bottom line is that details have changed, as MINECAR said. We don't have the specifics at this point, so there's no need to present your speculation as fact. Unless you work at NOJ you have no idea what will or won't be 3D.

Cave Story 3D's release date seems a bit too soon. I'm worried they haven't been working on the game long enough to iron out the major kinks, and given how glitchy the WiiWare port was at first, I can't say I'm super-confident in Nicalis' quality control for this one.

At least there's always the classic 2D version, I suppose.
