The only thing that would make me love them more is if they figured out an effective means of giving me my code for the Steam copy NOW so I can pre-load it on my computer.

They did find a way to bring an Xbox Live like experience to the PlayStation, too bad it only works for their games.

@Ospov Over the past year Valve has become my favorite dev in the industry. I don't even consider myself a huge fan of Valve games, though I have enjoyed the Orange box and the L4D series greatly. But in terms of customer service, innovation, everything really, Valve knows how to get it done. Now how about that Ep 3? (obligatory side note)

@bluem00se the great thing is valve has always been like this. since the half life 1 days. its just that their more recent games have exposed them to a much larger audience.

Good move. But I hope Valve know that those with controllers will be at a disadvantage. Like those who use the motion wheel on Mario Kart Wii, they should add an icon next to the names of PS3 users.

Since when? And how? From what I've heard there's no versus mode since there's no good way to implement it (other than speed runs or something).

They are; the Steam page has a picture showing this. Ps3 players have a Dual Shock icon next to their name.

No. They don't. I remember a developer talked about a vs Portal, but it wasn't very much fun according to them.

Maybe they're talking about some kind of time trial leaderboards, but I don't think a megabombshell like Portal Deathmatch would be posted on Qore.

It's easy assuming you have a PC that can run it. I debated still getting it for the PS3 but since I don't think I'll be able to upgrade my PC for a while I'm going to grab it for the 360 and get it for the PS3 later.

Anyone know if the PS3/Steam deal is a limited time thing or is it for future copies as well?

I'm still surprised they're doing this, considering their old/prior hatred of the Ps3. I guess Sony is more willing to work with companies and keep the online stuff open whereas I guess Microsoft really likes being the "big kid" of their playground and keeping everything under tight wraps.

OR, it could be that now Source is very OpenGL and multicore friendly, and the PS3 is also OpenGL and multicore...

(I don't think I need to finish this sentence)

I don't think valve can give away games on the behalf of other companies. They can give away steam copies because they own steam and this is going to bring in a lot of new customers to steam.

As odd as it sounds, I'm still getting it for xbox. Few reasons:
1) I prefer the xbox controller for first person games.
2) I'd rather get acheivements than trophies.
3) I have more friends with and xbox to play with.
4) I'll buy it on steam when it goes on sale in a year.

It sucks, though. I'll stick to Yakuza on my PS3, but I'm too used to the xbox controller for fps's to ever get comfortable enough to buy a fps game for PS3.
:(

Same here, all my friends are on Xbox, I like the controller better, care more about achievements than trophies, and I know my desktop couldn't even run it, laptop probably could but I have no desire to play on the computer.

@Gen Zodd Usually when a game is on both the 360 and the PS3, I pick up the 360 version out of personal preference.

In this case, the value of getting the PC version and the PS3 version together in one package really sold me on it. Otherwise, I probably would have just gotten the PC version by itself.

I'm so torn on this. How could you NOT want to get it on PS3 when you get the PC copy, and steamworks. I have the same problem as Zodd up there. For whatever reason I just can't get comfortable playing FPS games with the PS3 controller. I have BFBC2 and some others for it, but I never feel right unless I play with the Xbox controller or kb/m on PC.

But it's such a good deal. What to do? Anyone know if theres a good 3rd party PS3 controller similar to the Xbox one?

LOL @ your attitude. Too bad you have a keyboard shield.

But you do have an understandable point, when you remove the rudeness.
Achievements can be very fun to get. I constantly compete with my friends to see who can get the most on a given game. It creates a game within a game; a metagame. It's fun, if you have friends who are into it with you.

So a player on PC can do co-op with a player on PS3 ... but I can't save my game on PS3 and then pick up from that point on my PC?

What's the technical hurdle here?

Probably the way the systems save the files. I don't know what format PS3 save files are, but it's probably not the same as the PC save files. I think it would be cool if it worked like that though.

I don't see the save files as being the actual issue. They would be able to code something that could convert the save files. I think this probably has more to do with Sony and the cloud save options in PlayStation Plus. Sony wants to be the only one to make money off of cloud saving.

As I said above... They should be able to code something together that would convert the PS3 save so that it would be readable on the PC.

Exactly. If the game running on a PS3 is able to understand all the minutia of a co-op PC teammate's status, the game running on a PS3 should be able to decode a PC gamesave. And vice versa.

And isn't Portal on PS3 saving game progress to Steam Cloud? So Valve should be able to format that data however it wants.
