SSX to descend in January 2012
29
During EA's Season Opener event yesterday, SSX creative director Todd Batty revealed a launch window for the snowboarding revival: January 2012. The game will be playable at E3 in June, so expect a more detailed evaluation from us at that point.
The presentation was very light on SSX gameplay footage, though we were shown some new mechanics. An overhauled physics system in the game will attempt to eliminate invisible or man-made boundaries, allowing you to trick off rocks and find you own way down through the particular track in question. You'll also be able to employ a wingsuit in mid-air, making it possible to clear large, otherwise unnavigable terrain. Expect some familiar faces to return for this latest entry, too -- you can see the new version of Elise in the gallery below.
During our interview with Batty following his presentation, he explained that dynamic snow particles, imbued with their own physics, could influence spontaneous avalanches throughout descent (now that sounds deadly).

Winter Game released in the Winter....how about that.....only thing better than that....would be to release around the Winter Olympics...but thats not until 2014....sooooo maybe if they get this to move enough units...they can be fine to go with the next one in 2014.....Assuming we all make it past the 2012 Olympics that is...

Take all the time you need EA. As long as I'm not being hunted by a militant group of evil snowboarders and dying of asphyxiation, feel free to spend a little more time on this one. "Future" it up while you're at it. I could go to an REI and buy what that guy's wearing.

Nice to have a month to watch. If the rumor from a couple months ago holds true I'm hoping we'll see the HD-ified SSX rerelease on XBLA/PSN in early/mid fall to hold us over.
And considering what we've seen recently, I've got some actual factual hope for this series to come alive again.

Excellent.
This got back on my radar after the epic backpedaling post reveal.
SSX Tricky was a high bar to set, but here's hoping for a grand experience.
Another thing, I really hope we get back to having a slamming techno soundtrack. There are tunes from SSX3 (Like the JunkieXL Remix of Fischerspooner's Emerge) that are still on my playlist to this day.

i really dont understand why everything lately is a year away.
Rock vs Cena = Wrestlemania 28 (Apr 1 2012)
Opry Mills Mall = Spring 2012
now SSX = 2012..
BAH! why even say anything and jsut let people find out before release because waiting just lets you forget and not care.
