Because of the slow and inevitable death of the Wii this gen, I'm playing through most of the Wii games I got (finished No More Heroes this week and going back to Super Paper Mario & Zelda: Twilight Princess as well). Also, with Portal 2 coming out on Tuesday, I decided to play the original Portal from The Orange Box on 360 as well.

I'm late to the party on everything :(

Funny how I posted something like this a month or so ago and I got someone yelling at me.

Now that I'm done my university exams I have a ton of free time. So I've been doing a marathon of the four Metal Gear Solid video games. Its been taking a lot out of me. Currently on Metal Gear Solid 3

If those meters on GLaDOS@Home are any indication, it doesn't look like anyone will be playing Portal 2 early.

Just finished Dragon Age II today; I must say that the last hour or two really re-earned some goodwill for that game. I'll probably just play some random stuff until P2 on Tuesday. Probably mess around with the Potato Sack games some more. Blur and YDKJ are sitting on my TV stand right now, and I just got Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection in the mail today.

Yeah. I've got pinball fever. Deal with it.

like...don't know...a potato gun
and its revealed that the aperture lab is powered by a big ass potato battery
and GLaDOS is turning you into a potato, becomes a potato herself by accident, the other AI guy then takes over the lab, gets hungry and tries to process you both into fries. BUT THEN THERE IS COMPANION CUBE....and saves the day.
Oh and there is a song at the end, but no cake

Borderlands! i been addicted for the past 2 weeks, finally something to get me out of Minecraft for a while. The game is great and it runs surprisingly well on my MacBook. The best part is that i can use my PS3 controller via USB cable and the game will recognize it. As much as PC gamers love their precious keyboard and mouse lay up, i find it better to kick back with a controller in my hand. Also sorry for double post but im gonna reply to myself about a server of Minecraft i want YOU to join.

The whole "play to unlock Portal 2 early" thing is marketing.

They did the same thing with the Golden Wrenches for TF2. They were supposed to be random drops from crafting. And every 25 Golden Wrenches found, more info on the Engineer Update would be released. Turns out, they were on an hour timer. Each person who crafted first after the timer was up, got a Golden Wrench.

End result was the Golden Wrenches were found at a steady rate, and the info was unlocked in it's normal time.

They gave a purposely misleading launch date for Portal 2, then brought out this announcement. The game is going to launch on it's "early" date reguardless, but by playing the games not only are you getting the impression you are helping, you are giving more sales to those companies.

Now, I have nothing against the indie companies making more money, but this entire thing is marketing.

THE MAIN BAR IS AN AVERAGE OF ALL OTHER BARS.
ALSO, THE RATE AT WHICH COMPUTATIONS ARE COMPLETED IS PROPORTIONAL TO THE TOTAL POTATO COUNT.

I don't think anyone is under impression the entire thing isn't marketing. Brilliant marketing in fact from many angles.

But you're wrong about the locked process thing, the metres are changing in accordance to whatever the community is focusing on. Valve may still give it out a bit early if we fail, as they did apparently with the golden wrench, but if there's enough people doing the time in these things it will make a difference.

I can say that of my 50+ member friends list, I am the only one trying to contribute towards the unlock. One reason why people can sit around and say that the progress is too slow to be worth it is because most people are sitting around saying that the progress is too slow to be worth it.

A Catch 22 of sorts.

I am not saying the BARS aren't measuring progress. But whatever happened, whether or not people played to an imaginary number, they would unlock the game on the same day, reguardless.

Know Valve as long as I have.

You know how they work, and how they do things. And the fact that they have done things like this before.

"More crafting = More Golden Wrenches Found = More info on the Engineer Update released = Quicker reveal."

Until it turned out the Golden Wrench giveaways were on a timer, and the information released was at the SAME length as every other update.

Not saying Valve is a bad company, far from it. But it's easy to see a mile away what they are doing here. You are getting a chance to "feel good" because you helped unlock the game, and the developers of the indie games get more sales.

I have no problem with this being used to help sell indie games, but I do have a problem with the fact Wonderful End of the World was the first game to max out it's 'computations.'

Am I alone in my undying hatred of what is clearly and blatantly a Katamari ripoff? And not only a ripoff, but a bland, uninspired one that sucks all charm from the game? Stock sounds, evironments that wouldn't even pass muster for the very first game, horrendous music, and loading screens that are more eye rape than charming like Katamari had. Sure, maybe I'm just being a fangirl for once, but how is nobody else this annoyed at this steaming pile of thievery?

It was only maxed out first because everyone was idling in it together, they then focussed on 1...2...3...KICK IT. They're going through each of the most unpopular games first because they require less to fill the bar.

Just finished Dragon Age 2 this afternoon. I understand the complaints but, man, Bioware sure knows what they're doing when it comes to storytelling. Great, great game and I'm excited to see where they go with the third one after that ending. Started Enslaved immediately afterward and thought the opening sequence was pretty amazing. About 45 minutes in right now. Probably try to get through Portal again and keep on Enslaved. Lunch breaks will go to Ghost Recon 3DS and maybe Golden Sun 3. Never played the other two but I've heard good things and it was on sale. Also, green stars in Galaxy 2 and Reach. Always Reach.

I wasn't going to do it. I know it'll be on sale at Christmas for like ten bucks. I know it'll be free in three years or so. I could probably even just get one of my friend's PS3 codes on the cheap. I have a huge back catalogue, and I should work my way through that before buying more.

Despite all that, Portal 2 is now preloaded comfortably on my hard drive and I'm desperately gathering potatoes in 1 2 3 Kick It and Aaaaa! Sigh.

L4D and L4D2 have NEVER been $10, in their two years, nor free.

Your friend cannot give you his code, because the code requires you to register or create a Steam account on the PS3, and it checks to see if it's the same account. If not, you don't get the free game.

So you are safe in that you didn't screw yourself over.
