The lack of competitive multiplayer is disappointing. Geurilla was great.

@MEMgrizzlies7

Guerrilla had the most refreshing multiplayer I have played in a long time. Being able to use a reverse jetpack boost to stomp someone on the floor below me was something I never expected to do.

I don't know, this Red Faction feels like they're just phoning it in into something generic and "Gears of War" like, instead of what made Red Faction 1 and Guerrilla unique. I don't really see how tight, indoor environments play to being destructible. Traditional guns have never, ever been the fun part of Red Faction and having aliens now just bugs the hell out of me.

How do you know they're just "phoning it in"? Based on this preview??? Yeah, let's form an opinion on a game you haven't played yet.

@(Unverified) Of course, because that's not what people do with previews do at ALL. Everyone judges games off previews or there would never, ever be any pregame hype or conversation before they are released.

But what are you judging it on? All this "preview" is is blah blah no competitive multi blah blah tired ass Gears blah blah tired ass horde mode blah blah blah. Not so much a preview as a soapbox/rant if you ask me.

Now if Hinkle was consistent and talked about tired ass CODified competitive multiplayer, which is WAY more rehashed and retread, then I'd respect his opinion.

Is this going to be a standup fight, Sir, or another bug hunt?

"this May's Armageddon, won't have competitive multiplayer. In its place is "Infestation," a retread of Gears of War 2's often aped Horde mode"

As someone who enjoys Gears and plays Horde mode on a near-daily basis, this "preview" is full of fail.

The bias is strong with this one. I mean, what exactly is Hinkle asking for here? Yeah, they took out his beloved competitive multiplayer. Apparently NO ONE PLAYED IT. If it was sooooooo great, go and dig out your old copy of Guerilla and play that.

Oh that's right, NO ONE PLAYS IT.

This is a new game. They decided to try something new. And therefore it deserves to be judged on it's own merits.

Believe it or not Hinkle, there are people who actually like co-op Horde type experiences, instead of following the crowd to the next COD multiplayer wannabe

@(Unverified) There were some folk that played RF:G's MP - it's main flaw was the matchmaking setup (which I think was one of the big reasons not a lot of people played it, and that Volition have interpreted the data the wrong way).

But fully agree with your angle on this preview - me and my mates love coop, horde-type experiences. Joystiq are ridiculously inconsistent these days, and hardly ever review or preview something for what it is any more, but rather for what they want it to be. C'mon Joystiq, pull your "I have these views and no-one else's are valid" thing out of your orifice of choice and remember that there are lots of different types of gamers ;).

Wait, because I call out the mighty Hinkle for his supremely biased take on a mode in a game, I get downvoted into obscurity???

Is it not possible to have a different opinion any more?

All I know is I wish that they would go back to making a RF FPS, even if it was just XBLA, PSN, or something.

RF1 had a great story and RF2 and amazing MP.
It was a shame we could never see a actual 3 that combined the two.

Since Guerilla was such a huge step in a new direction

I for one enjoy coop in games more than competitive. I mean look at Deadspace, it didnt need multiplayer in the first place, but if they had done coop instead of competitive, I think it would have made more money.
