@King Johngie the Fourth

I'm hopeful that Naughty Dog will succeed with Uncharted 3 where 2k dropped the ball with Bioshock 2.

Cautiously hopeful.

That's really interesting. None of the core ideas they added are particularly new to multiplayer shooters apart from the cinematic stages - which sound really great.

But there seems to be a greater emphasis now on making a clever metagame in lieu of completely overhauling multiplayer modes. This isn't something aimed at Uncharted 3, but more games in general. I especially feel this way about Call of Duty and Halo, but this even holds true for stuff like FarmVille and Minecraft.

Have we hit a point where we've gone about as far as we can with making multiplayer modes original or interesting outside of persistent mechanics? Is this just a trend that'll eventually become an assumed and incorporated part of every game, or is it indicative of some greater rethinking in how people are designing multiplayer?

@Once known as Shadsy
I think everyone is just trying to cash in on the CoD craze and no one is really looking at what can be done with the multiplayer experience. They know what works and what people will buy so they go with that. I think before long though we will start to see more of a trend towards something else, like in Demon's Soul, or some new form of multiplayer where its just not you versus them.
Although I would love to see a game like Uncharted where as your going through the game people played as the grunts or took over for the AI as your going through the story mode. Think a mode like that could actually have a bit of merit if done right.

I can customize my character? YES!! This looks promising.

Even if they didn't change the gameplay much, I think U2's gameplay was quiet good. It only needs needs some improvements here and there.

It all sounds good, except for "there are all sorts of new boosters -- some that can be bought right in the middle of a match to provide extra bonuses."

I don't like the sound of that.

@Ninjasoup my guess is they'll be sort of like killstreaks. I know nobody likes comparisons to CoD, but it seems to me like it will be something between CoD's killstreaks and Homefront's in-match rewards that you can buy.

if they keep to the formula of U2's multiplayer that will probably have a mode of its own and regular TDM will be seperate.

I really, really liked Uncharted 2's multiplayer offering. I still jump in on multi-cash weekends when they have them. The Survival mode, especially, is good times.

Looking forward to it!

I kind of wish they would zoom in on the character a little more and give the guns a heavier "feel."

when I shoot a machine gun in U2 it doesn't feel like it has any power. maybe it's a combination of sound, rumble, recoil... idunno but it just doesn't have the same impact as some other games.

that being said this is still getting bought on day one

@eat it

I never really got into the MP of UC2 for that reason, plus there were way too many times where I'd empty alot of bullets into someone without having them die...instead they'd turn around and I'd get shot instead...

Of course, I'm going to get a bunch of responses of "learn 2 aim..."

I'm all for mechanics that can help the losing team turn the tide, but I'll wait to see how they actually come out. Mw2 was supposed to address that problem and it really, it didn't. It was just broken mostly.

" With the maps that we played.. Chateau and Airstrip.."

So, should we also expect... Dust, Aztec, Oilrig, Italy, Dust2... Or are we sticking to purely CS1.5+ named maps?

Looking forward to this, as long as they speed up the matchmaking. It was horrifically slow in Uncharted 2, such that it would keep me from considering sticking the disc in.
"I could go for some Uncharted 2 MP right now... but will I still want to play it after the fifteen minutes it takes to get in there?"
I can't be the only one who had to wait many, many minutes between matches.

@The Internets True dat. And showing how many people are playing each playlist would be a godsend too. In Uncharted 2, when I chose a playlist I had no idea if there were 10 people playing or 10,000. It would make finding games so much easier.

Anyone notice the massive discrepancy between the screenshots found on the Playstation Blog and here? http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/18/uncharted-3-multiplayer-modes-detailed/

The screens above are too heavily compressed to give the game's amazing visuals any justice.

Basically I am extremely excited for this. Because this game is hopefully going to be just as good as the first two. I personally enjoyed UC2's multiplayer to an immense degree.. I played nothing but that for at least a month once I beat the campaign. Call of Duty gathered dust, and I begrudgingly returned to CoD once I couldn't handle any more Uncharted. Just goes to show how good games can really be, sometimes. Crossing my fingers.
