Minecraft beta 1.5 released, our day gets even busier
19
We were worried that we wouldn't be able to find the time to dip our toes into today's beefy new release catalog -- now those worries have been abated, as we're one hundred percent certain we won't have the time. See, in addition to Portal Kombat, today also brings us the launch of Minecraft beta 1.5, an update which adds weather effects, statistics, achievements and some new minecart track pieces to the rapidly expanding title.
We'll try to get a few spare hours to scope out all the new arrivals, but between all the fatalities and ro-bro-mancing, it's going to be a stretch. Is there any chance we can expand today, so that it lasts, like, 28 hours? Using black holes, maybe? We're not sure, but we're totally going to need to consult some science-folks.

1.5 already? I got minecraft about a week before 1.4. I haven't even been on since it came out except for once. Didn't realize they update so fast (albeit these seem like minor content patches), unless i just happened to hop aboard when they started putting more updates out.

First noted bug with this update is the "Press E for Inventory" (or what ever letter you've assigned your inventory to in the options window) achievement will not go away when playing a multiplayer game. This is because the game only saves locally. And you must play a single player game to save (update) the achievement. =3

According to PCgamer: the update includes chance of pigs being struck by lightning turning into zombie pigmen:

Cool update but I have problems with ladders now. If they are not build continously (every second block one ladder piece), I cannot climb them anymore.
Sucks a bit. But it was nonsense anyway tbh.

For the love of god.
I literally just closed Minecraft (after the completion of my automated train station ;) ) Then i loaded up Joystiq. Now i have an urge to load back up the game and ride along in my minecart in the rain......
