Ocarina of Time 3D includes new 'Boss Challenge' mode
54
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D may not possess a boundless cornucopia of new features over its Nintendo 64 predecessor, but Nintendo revealed one neat gameplay mode in a press release published earlier today. After reaching a certain point in the game, players will access the "Boss Challenge" mode, which will "provide players with the opportunity to face any of the previous Bosses they have defeated once again, or, the option to face and confront them one-by-one, all in a continuous battle."
Oh, you mean we'd have to pummel Queen Gohma, King Dodongo, Barinade, Shadow Ganondorf, Volvagia, Morpha, Bongo Bongo, Twinrova, Ganondorf and Ganon all in one sitting? That's a whole lot of weak points to exploit, but we're pretty confident that we can handle it.

I will still go back to Windwaker and play that hole in the hills that drops you through like a hundred levels of enemies... so satisfying. I hope they do something like that.

Nintendo villains are badasses. Only a true badass makes his weak spot completely obvious and thinks they can still win. It's like Starfox 64. They might as well have had a giant neon arrow pointing to where to shoot, yet the pilots always taunted you like you were an idiot.
Ahhh, i love it.

Though I generally agree, I will say that I've never played through a Nintendo game that makes it so NOT obvious where the bosses' weak points are as Phantom Hourglass. I just finished the two-headed dragon, Gleeok, and it took me a bit of time to figure out what to do.

@Shockwave Do you not remember the Asteroid Field in Star Fox 64? The boss there DID have a giant neon arrow pointing you where to shoot.
Although in one phase of the fight I think it was actually a giant neon square.

This is a nice perk, but I'll be kind of bummed if they don't also throw in Master Quest as a bonus mode. I mean, why not?

I should hope so.
I'm hoping for about 3 more game play announcements. Things that ADD to the game, not reinvent or refine it. Totally new.
I suspect there will be at least one more, though. Either before or after it's released.

I couldn't even do a three-hearts run because the game kept giving me pieces of heart. The only way to actually do a freaking three hearts run is if you memorize their locations so as to actively avoid them.
In previous Zelda games, you'd have to actively look for them in obscure locations to find them. Another reason why Twilight Princess was insultingly easy.

It's included but you have to beat the game to unlock it, which is apparently how it was originally intended to work.

Did someone just coat Zelda OoT in chocolate and put a cherry on top? First they include Master Quest and now this. I'll have to get a 3DS afterall (as soon as the price drops of course).

Other than the enhanced graphics, 3D, ...and this, I hope Nintendo puts more content into the game. I likes OoT and all, but I couldn't find myself playing the same game again when I could just run on over to my N64 and get the same gameplay experience.

What a lame addition! Hopefully it offer's something as reward. Say a "Trophy" system in place like Super Smash Bros - you beat the boss in the "Boss Mode" and you get it's trophy (or an alternate trophy from what you got in the original playthrough).
The Trophy can then be viewed in glorious 3D - and in addition - you can view them in an augmented reality settings - you could take your "real" book case and place a bunch of Zelda trophies on it, then take a pic for your facebook page!
I'll buy this game, and play through the standard quest - but I'll probably not bother with Master Quest or Boss Mode if there isn't some added incentive, like trophies I mentioned earlier. Or maybe an "Achievement" system, where you can compare your Zelda stats online with other peeps/friends.
One final note - I assume a game like this has a TON of deleted "scenes" and areas... wouldn't it be need to have a play through some of these areas. Nothing would really need to be "completed", just wonder around and explore, maybe some baddies to fight, and maybe a running commentary about why it was deleted (or even just a text blurb before you enter). A unique behind the scenes look at a great game - something we don't see in really any game.

@Colin
No offense taken.
My counter-arguement would be that "achievements" are one of the oldest forms of reward associated with video gaming - but Legend of Zelda games (and many other Nintendo franchises) have not utilized them. Of course, back in the old days, they weren't called achievements - they were called "High Scores". And everyone who played the arcade or game would see your 3 digit mark next to your high score. That is the essentially the original "Achievement".
Nowadays, Microsoft (and now Sony, Apple, Valve, etc) have incorporated a more modernized "High Score" system (Achievements, Trophies, etc). Rather than just one "score", we get to see all sorts of accomplishments, and the Legend of Zelda series is FULL of accomplishments, for example: Time taken to complete a dungeon, boss fight, entire game, % of game completeion, etc. Why not create a system that allows you to showcase these accomplishments to your friends and strangers?
You are correct that games could be enjoyed without the need of reward - but the reward system can be very addicting and if done correctly, add a whole new level of competitiveness to a game that maybe wasn't originally intended.
And in the very least, adding a reward/achievement system shouldn't ever take anything away from the game. Fans of the original Orcarina of Time will be able to play it as it was originally made (albeit with updated visuals and hopefully sounds).
