A blog post translated by Andriasang says production of the PSP Go is over. This adds to mounting evidence that the final days of the PSP Go are upon us -- you know, if anyone actually buys the remaining stock. Eurogamer received a very awkward non-denial from Sony Europe when it followed up on the new information, and MCV notes there are no more PSP Go handhelds heading to UK retail.
Amazon updated the PSP Go's product page several weeks ago, saying it had been "discontinued by manufacturer." When we contacted Sony of America for clarification, a representative stated, "We are going to continue to make shipments of PSPgo." We've contacted Sony again to find out if it has finished shipping those previously mentioned PSP Go units, and whether it plans to make more.

Well, you're wrong.
I had a GBA and SP. I bought loads of games for it.
I bought a GB Micro. I played those games on it again.
I have a PSP-3000. I bought loads of games for it.
I didn't buy a PSP Go.... there was no way to play my library on it. Except a few PSN games... but other than the occasional good PS1 or Minis. Well I don't even need to finish that sentence. PSN is c-r-a-p for everything. Overpriced nonsense.
Also the Micro was CHEAPER than the GBA and SP. Nintendo got it right - build fewer models, sell it cheaper. They all sold out.
Sony? Banked the farm on it. Sold it at a higher cost than the 3000 (STUPID) and then couldn't shift them... even when they gave away 10 games it remained in stock, in stores, unsold.
The GB Micro is nothing like the Go. The Go is worthless.

I liked the Go...not for me since I already had/have a PSP, but it seemed to be a failure. I know that I would have switched over if my library wouldn't have been made useless by it, but oh well. Still hoping for good things for the NGP!

@Sled I think they knew it wouldn't sell to begin with, but they wanted to test the waters for the ngp, Could you imagine if the ngp was download only? It might be the end of PSP.

I kind of want one just because it actually would fit in my pocket as opposed to my PSP. But I certainly wouldn't get rid of my regular PSP with all the games I can't play on the PSPGo. Maybe if I find one at a good price...

@baddates77 ...for me i was already only downloading the games so the PSPgo was a no brainier for me.

That's kinda weird. Since the PSPGo is the only PSP I've seen in stores in the UK in the past year. And on top of that, most game stores don't sell ANY new UMD games, only preowned ones.
Is Sony just stopping the PSP entirely in the UK until the NGP comes out?

I love the design of the Go, but when I look at the game list, all the best games are either Japanese PSN only or they never made them for download.

What?
I would figure this means the price of a PSP Go will drop considerably, considering that big box retailers are probably getting a little tired of looking at the same goddamned units that have been sitting in their backrooms since launch.
The same thing happened with the 32-X.
Yeah, remember that piece of shit? It was the video game hardware equivalent of a stillborn baby, only Sega had the audacity to dress it's fetal corpse in a f*cking Star Wars costume and parade it up and down the aisles of Toys R' Us.
Within months, it's rotting baby corpse started to stink up the joint, so they dropped the price to, like, two nickels a promise not to laugh.
Jaguar anyone? I got one by forcing a Babbage's employee to eat some garbage I found in the food court trash can - they couldn't get rid of them, otherwise.
Some genius bought Atari's remaining stock and converted it into medical equipment. I converted mine into a bong.
The PSP isn't a bad piece of hardware. I have a real one...you know, one that actually plays all the software and is priced reasonably?
But the PSP Go is cockshit. You don't take out expensive components from your handheld and then raise the price of the unit. It may please the brick and mortar retailers who are about to lose out on physical software sales, but it's also going to piss the shit out of the consumer.
You know, the people who will ultimately buy your product?
The PSP Go will be this year's stocking stuffer, only because it'll cost about as much as a chocolate bar.

Well they did. They said that they'll be making sure ALL games for the NGP are digital download day and date with physical release.
The games that didn't come out for the PSPGo were really what killed it.
Shame, since it was by far the best designed PSP. And had the best screen.

I never owned a PSP until I got the Go about six months ago.
It's superior hardware with two caveats: It's a little cramped, and some games never made it to the PSN store.
Doesn't it have better battery life? No need to lug around physical media. No waiting for the UMD to spin up. If Sony had put together some sort of UMDs-for-PSN-vouchers program, the Go might have taken off.
I also own a DS Lite (and an iPhone), and at this point I can't see myself ever buying a 3DS or an NGP.

The battery life is just the same as the other PSP models, they had to reduce its capacity to avoid over heating

Took a while but they realized it was a mistake.
Luckily they didn't try to phase out PSP3000 too soon. Y'know, the PSP you should buy cause it does everything the PSPgo does, with a UMD drive and it's cheaper.

They could melt down the PSP GO units and make NGPs. That would be the green solution, right?

its not a bad piece of hardware, but it wasnt a step forward, it was a side step... i think it wouldve done well had sony had some sort of uprgrade feature (or usb device) to download UMDs to PSPgo.. the first DS was brilliant having both ports for games and slowly eased people into buying new games, but still playing their GBA ones

The Go was ahead of it's time really.
It was never meant as a replacement towards the "phat" psp. Just an alternative. Gamers insisted that be the former.
The high price made ruined it though.
Really not a terrible little device, just misunderstood.

@SmashZilla The price point is what killed it. Who wants to pay that much money for a device that offers few functionality improvements over the cheaper 3000?

Exactly.
I'm sure Sony did not want to sell it at a lose but the draw back was....no one bought it.
People who already had an older psp couldn't play their games and people looking to buy a psp just were not won over by the Go, it's smaller screen size, and lack of ability to be hacked at first.

I like my PSP Go, then again I almost exclusively play Mini's I got from PSN plus on PS3. That and I have a SNES emulator running. I have a PSP 2000 for actual games, little more comfortable on that one.

PSPgo without the ability to use UMDs in some way (adapter, etc) is a total fail concept. HOWEVER, if you have a hacked PSP (easier than ever these days) you can ISO dump your retail legit UMDs and play them on a Go using LCFW. I have a Go plus a 16gb mem stick for a total of 32gb. I also have 36 retail UMDS. I can fit all of them (with almost no room to spare) on the stick and have 'em on my at all times. It's portable a sturdy and the screen is brighter and more vivid than my PSP 3000.
It's not for everybody, but if you are interested go for it. Do not upgrade past 6.35 and you can run anything on it. You don't even need to hack to run most homebrew and longer.
