...uh, Rock Band 3?

@mywhitenoise

Considering the cost to get going on RB3 to play real guitar is $400 and this will hopefully be around $100-$150 for someone with a guitar already and be more of a teaching tool it really isn't the same. $400 is way too much for many people.

@FriedConsole
RB3 = $20
Mustang Pro = $80 - $135
http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Mustang-PRO-Guitar-Controller-PlayStation-3/dp/B003RS1A7Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1303324186&sr=8-2

total = $100 - $155

RockSmith = $60
Guitar = $90 - thousands

total = $150 (for the cheapest set up)

@FriedConsole Add $150 for those that don't have a guitar already, and the difference in price becomes minuscule.

@mywhitenoise

The RB "Mustang" controller with 200 buttons is not a real guitar.

Real Guitar

http://www.amazon.com/Stratocaster%C2%AE-Wii-XBOX-360-Playstation-3/dp/tags-on-product/B004MF102G

Priced at $400

Adapter Priced at $40

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Rock-Band-MIDI-PRO-3/dp/B0042B3EOM/

Plus $60 for the game

= $500

I would like for you to find the real guitar for cheaper. You should know a real guitar doesn't have 200 buttons.

@FriedConsole Congrats, you went to Amazon and found the most expensive third party seller you could find. Now let me show you the actual price:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=E6810BC01A3F099A3B57E26AC4FF643B.bbolsp-app02-51?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=81774190978675500&id=pcat17071&type=page&st=Rock+Band+Squier&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=15&sp=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960

If you're gonna attack the price, at least get it right.

@FriedConsole what TRTX said

And plus: 60$ for the game? If you're gonna go on to Amazon to find prices, at least try to find the price of the game. It's priced at 20$ and it's been a while.

Rock Band 3 ftw.

@TRTX

You still need to buy the midi adapter for the real guitar controller. I wasted 150 on the mustang controller and it doesn't even feel close to the real thing, mind you, it can teach you the proper positioning and technique, but it still feels like holding down plastic buttons and strumming fake strings. Not gratifying at all. But you can at least take the technique you learn to the real thing. And for those who do not have a guitar, you can pick up one for as cheap as 100 bucks. It won't be a Randy Rhoads or anything, but it is something you can learn on until you are ready to upgrade. This is along the same lines as RB 3 but I do find the interface to be a bit more intuitive. RB3's pro interface is more based on memorization of the chords, and it is cumbersome at times. I would check this out definitely. Having real guitars at home already makes the price less of an issue.

They have a real guitar (Best Buy's Fender Strat). I just showed the most affordable option.
They may be buttons, but you're still playing real guitar.

@mywhitenoise Err, no. Pressing buttons is not playing a real guitar. No matter how hard you want it to be.

You're hitting "buttons" that are placed on frets, and you strum along to plastic strings...if you were the play those exact notes on a guitar, you'd be playing the actual song.
I know this, because I own a real guitar, and the Mustang Pro.

Ummm....shouldn't you gear the game toward those who have NEVER picked up a guitar? At least show someone who has never played the guitar? HELLO?? If you can play the guitar half as good as ANYONE in this vid, you don't need this game... ever heard of tabs?

@Peffse As in GH controllers? Probably not. Though hopefully it works with the RB3 Mustang and Squier.

Super excited about this game but the charting is actually more confusing than the Rock Band expert stuff. Seriously just put up tab. I guess the color refers to a fret? Seriously give me an option for standard tab and I will buy this game.

This game doesn't have a chance with the gaming community because the hive mind is to be a Rock Band fanboy but I think a lot of people would be very interested in something that seriously teaches guitar.

Rock Band failed at too many levels:

1) Specialized guitar with an specific input box. Couldn't even get a standard MIDI guitar to work? Guitar cost $300 and still needs an input box? No.

2) No string bends.

3) Confusing note chart.

The Ubisoft game looks to at least fixed #1 and #2 but #3 is far worse.

@FriedConsole You had a potential argument until you immediately went to the "OMG Rock Band fanboy!" argument.

Rock Revolution provided nothing new, and PowerGig wasn't at all what it advertised itself to be.

The only thing this ad gave me that is an advantage is that I can use ANY guitar with it. However it did nothing to set itself apart from the established RB Pro system for playing actual guitar notes.

All I got out of this was "WOOO ROCKSMITH!"

while this does make guitar playing look insanely easy, I can't imagine it doing well on quick songs, or songs that jump around the neck.

Still having the WHOLE SCREEN dedicated to "pro guitar" is quite nice.

You cannot bend notes though on the plastic POS, and that is a key technique. Long story short, anyone want to buy a Mustang controller?

@Lucky48

It will come down to whether there are enough songs that I want to learn on the disc. If the setlist sucks, there is no point.

So after everyone jumped ship and realized that games like Rockband and Guitar hero was over someone said "I know! Lets use REAL instruments which is 100 x time harder to use and see how that goes.: So after PowerGig takes a shit Rocksmith is now supposed to fix where PowerGig failed. The funny thing the amount of money this will cost is equal to a low end epiphone guitar that you can actually learn, play and get pussy with..

What's not clear here is "are you stuck on the same 5 frets?" Because nothing I've seen has you moving up and down the fretboard.
