I find it hilarious the only difference, looks wise, between this "new" character and Alex Mercer is that the new guy is black. I figured they would have at least dressed him differently. I was wrong.

Then again, I am completely flabbergasted that Prototype is even getting a sequel to begin with.

Why? Prototype was incredibly fun.

@baby sea tuna Eh, I didn't have that experience. The only thing I found enjoyable was traversal and even that could get cumbersome at times. I also found the pacing of the game to be a little aggravating and the combat not that much fun for me.

@bamb0ostick lol, agree to disagree. Hell, the game was fun for about 3 hours and then it all just got on my nerves and just became a chore.

@baby sea tuna You must be one of the 10 fans..

the game started a bit crappy, then got worse, then the introduced wrestler types with instagrabbing-unescapable-uncounterable-health-wasting attacks... you could elbowdrop a tank but couldn't shake a wrestler off. WTF.. then there was the tank boss, that was unstoppable UNTIL it was at the location you were supposed to stop it reaching.. if you tried to finish the fight before then, you would get hit by magically appearing missiles

Prototype was just another sandbox game, It's like playing GTAIV, red dead redemption or any of the other sandbox type games for me they are fun if you only focus on the main quests and get to see the story flushed out, but traveling around gets boring and tiresome that's probably the biggest problem with sandbox games they really don't give you much interesting things to do aside from the main story.

the one thing i thought prototype did so much better than most sandbox games is that when you try to leave the sandbox instead of hitting an invisible wall they nuke you for trying to leave the island

I thought locomotion was the best part of the game, personally. It reminded me of Spider Man 2 where I spent more time going around the city (and murdering civilians) than I did in the story (which I did play to completion.) Compare that to inFamous where, unless there were train tracks or telephone poles, it was an effing chore to get anywhere.

I have to disagree. Prototype was way to reptetive for me. And the story wasn't at all good enough to hold the redundant gameplay.

Hmm I dunno, I thought about getting this but I never played the first - well not enough to keep me interested. I personally like infamous but is going to be a "at your own discretion" type game? I just want know is it worth it

If you can pick it up for dirt cheap (which you should be able to) then yes it's worth it. IMO the games storyline starts out good but falls flat towards the middle.

Honestly, the only reason this game gets compared to inFamous is because it was released around the same time. Yes they are both "super hero type characters" and yes both games are open world but that's where the similarities stop.

If your looking for a decent open world game where you can slice and dice enemies while elbow dropping a tank then this game is for you. If not then save for Infamous 2...

I LOVED Hulk Ultimate Destruction which was made by the same team, so I should love this game too, right?

Yes. The locomotion and move set is similar to Hulk, but this one is WAAAAY more violent. Plus, there's some stealth sections and the possession mechanic to break up the action a little bit. And they kept my favorite move from Ultimate Destruction, where you run up a building and do an atomic elbow drop down to the street below. Insane!

I never played Prototype, but Hulk Ultimate Destruction still stands as one of the best super hero games I've ever played. I may have to give it a shot now

@The Tim Just a random comment, but did you play the Hulk game based off the movie with Edward Norton? It was waay better than ultimate destruction, simply for the ability to destroy buildings with out remorse, throw cars and buses into buildings and watch them smash into and stick in to them. Prototype is worth at least A playthrough just from what you can do.

@ZAXBY Infamous was a bad example of open world. The story I though was much more bland than Proto, plus the whole same mission over and over was pretty weak. Go underground, turn this on, rinse and repeat. At least in Proto you could fly choppers, drive tanks, consume people, walk up buildings, and the story at least made sense.

The first prototype was just pure sandbox game where you can do whatever you want. The story was nothing special the main character was slightly above average but the gameplay was simply fun and over the top. Hopefully this time around they can fix most of the problem with the first game and make it more interesting while still improving on the gameplay.

Why can't somebody just make a game where I actually get to play a David vs Goliath vs Darth Vader battle. I'd buy that game.

Hopefuly the coop they cut from the first one will show up, would add a lot more playing time, second, hate to say this but why the change from mercer to this guy? I listened to Mercer who was the generic emo kinda guy and lived with it, I dont need generic black guy voice number 222654 to talk trash the entire time.

Here's a brief summary of the main character of the first prototype.

GRR I'VE BEEN WRONGED BY THE GOVERNMENT
REVENGE REVENGE
I DON'T REMEMBER MUCH
KILL PEOPLE FOR MEMORY

(all while spoken in typical gruff protagonist voice)

Repeat ad infinitum.
Sacrifice city for personal whim.

I tried this briefly and though it was OK. I preferred Infamous for giving the choice to NOT be a mass-murdering monster; Prototype offers you no such choice. You may be well-intentioned, but you ARE a monster. When the game's initial tutorial has you devouring an innocents...well, that was about where I checked out. I liked Hulk: Ultimate Destruction because it gave me the powers of the Hulk, but I also got to be a HERO.

I don't mind having the option to be a bad guy...I just don't want to be forced to ONLY be a bad guy. I suspect this may be the source of the change in Prototype 2.

Prototype was one of those guilty pleasure games for me, I played the hell out of that game. I admit it was not a great game and they totally screwed up the story and gave us a crappy final mission. I read the guide at a Target and I was amazed how much work they put into the story and characters and saw how poorly that was translated into the game.

As bland as Alex was I liked him and he looked pretty cool, but now we get a generic angry bald soldier, why?! Give him some goggles and he looks like the guy from the new Red Faction game. I really don't like this guy and the direction of the story.
