Shadows of the Damned launching on June 21, 2011

At a recent event in San Francisco, Suda 51 from Grasshopper Manufacture announced the new launch date for Shadows of the Damned: June 21. That gives it two weeks to get out of E3's way (the game was originally scheduled for June 7).

Shadows of the Damned is a bizarre, horror-themed third-person shooter coming from EA Partners and a trio of well-known Japanese developers. If the names Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil), Suda 51 (No More Heroes) and Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill composer) don't ring any bells, then you really have no idea just how weird this game is going to be.

I have a feeling this will be my personal 2011 Game of the Year. Shinji Mikami + 3rd person shooter = boner.

This game is going to be awesome. Since Resident Evil 4, everything Mikami has touched has been gold... a shame he'll only make one other game after this.

@Icemael What exactly does that mean? He's quitting games?

@kentuckyfried: He's said that after this, he'll direct one game at Tango Gameworks. Then, he'll just be studio president and let younger members direct. So he's not quitting the industry, and he'll probably teach and help the younger designers to a degree, but he won't actually work as a director or designer himself.

Wow i'm glade this game coming out in the summer, but i still need to see some more gameplay.

Sorry, because the names are the most interesting thing we've seen so far, No, I think they're about all we've seen of this game, and this thing drops in two months? I'd really love to actually see more, if anything at all, about the game. Rock of Ages is higher up on my wishlist than this, so far.

@Assmar: There have been trailers, hands-on previews and plenty of screenshots and concept art. And E3 is soon.

Well...that was fast. I wasn't expecting this until next year.

For once, somebody makes a release date announcement that makes any sense...and not frought with delays.

Honestly, with those three names behind it, I don't see how it could go wrong. I can't wait to try it.

So... they delayed it so people could play it at E3 before it comes out?

Hopefully, the game will be more of RE4 in Hell than Suda "What in the hell is this?" meta-game with wrestling moves and babes.

I'm hoping for more Suda, personally. From the look of things, it may turn out that we'll both be very happy.
