@Apsac D I wish I could say that too, but they hurt me soooooooo much. Not until they make a new Console and say Sorry to a certain blue fella... will I embrace em again and pick up the old arms. Then and only then will I be fanboying around again :).

I agree, Sega needs a Miyamoto. Mario just... Good. Great. Amazingly awesome.

Sonic... Not so much. But I'm excited for this game.

Hmm... Looks like a lot of parts it was just propelling you through the level with springboards and boosters without you actually doing anything. I'm not gonna get my hopes up like the last 10 times.

@TraceurRyuk Part III

I think this is a big part of why I think Classic Sonic was always better than Modern.

Modern's version of the level is always this constant breakneck speed, but because you're ALWAYS fast ALL the time it ends up really desensitizing you to the speed and you end up feeling "meh".

Classic on the other hand was always about pockets of crazy speed; you would have the slightly slower exploratory segments connected to a big burst of loops and dashing, and because the speed was used to punctuate moments rather than be the ENTIRE moment, it was way more effective to me in making Sonic feel fast.

This looks pretty fantastic. Looks like they learned some lessons... nice stuff that reminds me of Colors, some stuff more reminiscent of the old games.

As long as the running physics aren't all weird like in 4, I'll be happy... It doesn't look like they are.

@Softserve I was thinking the same thing, I don't want the classic Sonic to handle the same way as the one from Sonic 4, it just didn't feel right. But considering that I did enjoy Sonic 4 and Sonic Colors and this looks like a combination of both, I shall be enthusiastic.

Sonic running really fast through neat, rollercoaster levels?

Check.

Complete absence of stupid gimmicky horseshit in the form of snarky alligator/armadillo/bumble-bee companions, awkwardly-controlled vehicles and/or weapons of any kind?

Check...or is it?

Be a winner, Sega. Be a winner.

"Sonic running really fast through neat, rollercoaster levels?"

Why would you want this? That's a hallmark of the new games more than the old ones. The old ones actually had a lot of exploration.

I can smash out Sonic 3 while hitting all the special stages by taking the right routes in almost no time.

When I play Sonic 3, that shit looks like a straight-up roller coaster. I imagine any dedicated Sonic fan could do the same.

Sure, exploration played a part during my first-ever playthrough, but eighteen years later?

I can race through the first three Sonic games with my eyes closed. Stopping and exploring?

No thanks. That was one of the myriad of problems that Sonic 4 had.

@Urethra Alfredo They already said in a interview characters are showing up, though if you expected Sonic, Tails and Knuckles to be the only one's you're kind of stupid. It's a game exploring the 20 years of sonic history, levels AND character wise. I know shadows already been confirmed.

I just hope there's classic shadow where he's a fatass on rollerblades who says mondo a lot

I really, really don't want to sound like a "haters gonna hate" type, but the disjointed gameplay styles seems like a lazy idea. I mean, this to me looks like SEGA's admitting they can't for the love of god make a Sonic game that utilizes both the 2D and 3D gameplay effectively. The past few years it looks like they've been trying, but now it looks like they've thrown their hands up and said "f*** it, just make two separate games".

Don't forget the borrowed, Joystiq: Level design and music from the classic trilogy, boosting from Rush/Colours, and many others.

Basically, this looks like a collection of all the best things about Sonic games past and present smashed into one amazing game. I can't help but be a little excited.

Am I the only one who hates the Boost Mechanic? I mean I look at this game and Classic sonic looks fun, but then Modern Sonic's boost game play just kills any excitement for me. Just go back to the gameplay in the Adventure games Sega, just actually polish it this time rather then rushing it.

I grew up watching the show, so naturally at that age I liked it. If I were to watch it nowadays, I probably would notice the lower quality. The movie however, is pretty funny. They represent Tails's character very well. If you haven't seen it, I would give it a shot, even if for a laugh or two.

I think people really exaggerate the exploration elements of the old games. Levels had a few paths, but even those were generally short steps elsewhere that would bring you to the same general place so you could continue the level.

This seems to be more like the old ones in that sense, but honestly my least favorite parts of old Sonic games were when you had to stand in place waiting for something to happen or perfectly time jumping on some dinky moving platform.

@Softserve I for one am glad to see that. It's nice to do more than hold the Right button and take some time to do some actual platforming.

Yes, I actually enjoyed the Marble Zone from Sonic 1.

So it's Sonic Unleashed with the bullshit Man-Hog stages replaced with classic gameplay. I won't get too optimistic, though, and wait to see if there is or isn't those even more bullshit HUB stations from Sonic Unleashed.

That music needs some work. It's like they hired some guy to remix it in 10 seconds by adding a heavy beat to the chiptune.

That looks awesome although I have my reservations, based on the pathetic controls and playability of 2006's Sonic the Hedgehog for PS3 and sonic unleashed's wackiness but I really hope that they nail it on this one as it looks completely awesome and fun.

Holding out hope for the Sonic Team!

A cameo would actually be cool. I'd like to see moments where Big is peaking out the corner and waving, like in Sonic Adventure 2. Just don't make me play as him.

I must be the only one who loved Sonic Unleashed, all of it (minus -one- special hog stage in the Chinese area, holy hell that sucked). This looks like they put old Sonic on graphical steroids (the first half looks gorgeous), and new Sonic is straight from Unleashed. The person/AI playing new Sonic was actually pretty good to my eyes. If anyone's concerned that in new Sonic parts that they'll just have to hold right or forward and jump, go play some of the later speed levels in Unleashed. The last level..that was ridiculously long for a Sonic game.

@Reploid You are not alone! I enjoyed Sonic Unleashed, too. Including Werehog stages. Yeah, some parts were annoying, like anything involving balancing over bottomless pits on spiked beams that can't be grabbed. And the jazzy battle music interrupted the great background music too frequently. But the fighting system itself was very well done.

Wow, someone else DID like it! It certainly had its flaws like any game, but people just bash on it because it's easy for them to keep doing something they've always done. It was different, but still really well implemented. Awesome dude, you have won my internet respect already. I hope this comment gets to you if you're subscribed, haha.

I know right!

New Sonic is all about hitting buttons to go faster and basically a roller coaster games. New fans, (YES I KNOW! they DO exist! As weird as they are) say you have to hold right to win on the old games... yet on the new ones you just hold up instead....

It's just a ridiculous type of gameplay. I don't want to go breakneck fast. I want Sonic. And thankfully they've listened to us real fans and looks like they're onto a winner.
