Second that motion. Surely this metric is by far and away the most effective measuring tool the gaming industry can use at this point. Why we havent been using this sooner demonstrates how utterly behind we are in our rating systems.

Why is it hard to believe? The Xbox 360 is built like a gaming pc, making it easy for devs to port a game from a pc to a console or console to pc. The PS3 uses an advanced cell processor so it is very difficult for devs to work with.

@Rankore It probably means they're going with a deep OO-based language and API, ala C#/.NET, coupled with compatible PPC processors and ATI graphics would make it extremely compatible with Xbox 360 from a development standpoint (code is easy to port, assembly and device-specific functions remain unchanged).

2007 called, they want their old excuse back... you should prob read some NEWER sources about PS3 development in 2011, altho you're right about easier port from PC to 360.

Gotta remember, this is supposedly an SDK slide, they're trying to entice developers with it.
I'd say this is real, but looking at the SDK.. i hope it's not... god that thing is fugly.

It is the perfect time to release a console for Nintendo. They will have a huge jump on the competition, and it will only make Sony and Microsoft work harder at making their own future systems more powerful. Just keeping it real and looking at the facts, but Nintendo won this console war, with the Wii.

I agree with you in terms of sales, but not content. The promise of a new Zelda or Mario is no longer enough to guarantee a Nintendo console purchase in my opinion.

won this console war with the Wii?!? seriously?! i was agreeing with you till you ended your post with that sentence then i re-read your post again and it def comes off as a overly exited Nintendo fanboy.

its NOT the best time for a Wii2, if anything it shows you exactly why the Wii didn't win diddly sh!t this gen. Unless you mean selling 100 million consoles to push out kid and family friendly games to everyone with tacked on motion control. a new console now is a slap to the face of all Wii owners who have to REBUY a new console while their competitors are still enjoying BETTER games on a console thats not even 6 years old.

Do you actually think devs (that are not nintendo) are gonna run to develop brand NEW games that take advantage of a new console at this point in time? No, they are not. They are gonna develop the same exact games the PS3 and the 360 have, except now you will have a Wii2 port to play with, which bring a better point, if the Wii 2 releases next year and the PS4 and xbox720 (?) don't come out for another 2-3 years then Nintendo would again be stuck with older hardware.

in all, releasing a new console now is a bad bad idea, for everyone, it confuses the normal casuals who just bought a Wii, its bad for gamers who now have to either buy a new console because their old one is going to be a second class toy, and its bad for developers who have to develop new games for a new console when their competitors have established their names and their services (and sales)

I disagree with you. The winner of the console wars are based on how many systems are sold. PERIOD. Who has the dominant market share? That is what is determined on who wins the war. The year 2005-2006, was when all 3 systems were released. It is now 2011. It is a perfect time to release a new console for Nintendo. If they wait, and release at the same time as the others (2014 maybe?), they would probably lose significant market share, because of the loyal XBOX and PS3 users. By releasing, a new console in 2012, Nintendo will have a powerful console and be able to compete with the hardcore, instead of attracting non-gamers like they did with the Wii. Face the facts, and look at how Nintendo, completely changed the philosophy of Sony. They saw the Wii, and said "Hey, this motion control thing actually works, and you can make money off it." Nintendo is one of the greatest game makers of all time, and many 3rd party developers look up to Nintendo for opening the doors for them way back in the 80's. Developers love new technology and Nintendo will have no problems at all in that regard. Look, I am thinking that I am keeping it real. There is no hate here.

you make a good point, but Nintendo is now trying to play some kind of game of catch-up, to catch up to what ever Sony and Microsoft come up with next, you know, by your definition.

hey, question, is it irony the new zelda game is gonna be a port from the console prior.

Your right about that. The Wii is outdated by technological performance. Sony and Microsoft (Sony more so) have always been about power under the hood. Nintendo really needs to catch up with raw horsepower. But, take a look at the past. The NES really didn't have any competition, the SNES was more powerful than the Genesis. The N64 was more powerful than the PS1, the Gamecube was more powerful than the almighty PS2. I am strictly talking about hardware power. So, the Wii was really the first system that lacked in horsepower compared to the competition. The Wii has been so popular, that Nintendo did back themselves into a corner, by having the preconceived notions that they care more about attracting new gamers rather than the hardcore. If there is any truth to the power of Nintendo's new console, then they are going to compete directly with the competition on their own playing field. The gloves will come off, and the true Next Generation will start.

If the new Zelda will be a port, from the Wii to the new console, then that will be really lame. I have to admit that. I hope it stays on the Wii, but just when you think you have Nintendo figured out, they come out of left field and make you say "WTF!"

I would hazard a guess and say that it's something that Devs can work on and then port things to this device.

Well as I can personally say that, I would like to wait and see before jumping to conclusions. Many things that were only rumors and blurry images came to fruition that was show here on Joystiq in the past.
Such as but not limited to:
-the ps3 slim
-the 360 slim
-Microsoft's project natal (Kinect)
-the psp phone (xperia play)
-the psp go
-Duke Nukem Forever

...and so forth. We can honestly say that many of us have been proven wrong since even though we live in an age where fact checking, multiple sources, and easy photography are present, we still remain skeptical. Companies we love, year after year, surprise us with something new each and every time so I'm still remaining skeptical on both sides here.

They are also the basis for the ultimate in bad taste pranks: the road apple sundae. You place road apples (wet or dry) in cupcake molds, and cover with chocolate, sprinkles, and a cherry. Serve to unsuspecting persons, and prepare to meet your maker when they kill you for it.
