i like how they just tell us now i crap may have been stolen and we have no way of protecting our selves. And i like how the intrusion happened while everyone was online. my thoughts are that they are not wanting our info they just want the stuff from the store otherwise they would have taken it by now on when they hacked it and were on when it happened and Sony didn't notice. The major sad part is that Sony fails to have better security seriously Sony where is the thought is the customers safety.

Ok...yeah...Sony dropped the ball on this one...we all can agree there...

But make no mistake, the people responsible should *pay* to the maximum extent of the law.....not only because they are jackasses that screwed absolutely everyone globally over all at once...but also because of the fact that, if this goes unchecked, you can *bet* other services will be attacked in a similar way in the near future.

Xbox Live...I'm looking at you. Don't think for a second the security is any better 'just because you pay for it'.

Ya know what'll be cool? Due to this "problem", it forces Sony to go ahead and release the PS4 :o New security updates and whatnot. The PS3 is just as old as the Wii, so why not?

(Insert non trolling comment here.)

I hope they get it back and working and its better and more hacker proof then ever in the mean time. Get the credit cards re-issued.

If there is a class-action against them, i will certainly be joining. The way they have gone about this is absurd.

this is exactly why i never put my credit card info on my PS3 or 360 in fear of something like this. & this only insures that i will continue to use pre-paid code cards from here on out.

The PS3 goes from being 100% completely unhackable to a worldwide shut down due to information theft in the span of a year.

Oh the irony...

@Mr Esc is the namesarcasm is my, who in their right mind would give their kid access to their credit card anyway? Yeah i with you on this one, i could find out anyone's info in a few mins online. Even where they have been over the last ten years if i really wanted to, why not take it a step farther and go and head a list their family tree, Using someones credit card is about the dumbest crime you can commit, it's to damn easy to track back to you. If people are really worried about it then check you statement or have your card reissued. There are over 60 million PSN Users, what are the chances that the few people who did this would come across your info anyway? 1 in 60,000,000 talk about people over reacting, Sony did right by shutting the PSN and trying to keep mass panic down.

Has anyone actually received an email from Sony regarding the breach? I haven't gotten mine yet, and I've been checking both inbox and spam filter..

I'm not very good with all this hacking and stuff, but there are no sure way that Sony can know if it has been stolen information? or is it?

In that case than I think Sony were smart and tried not too worry the users, I would appriciate an answer(if anyone got the time).

Having been a victim of identity theft (in which the person had acquired my SSN), this -honestly- isn't as awful as people are making it out to be. Credit cards and debit cards are so easy to monitor. You should be doing it anyway. They're easy to cancel and easy to be replaced and any damage can be disputed and repaired.

Now, am I saying that how Sony handled the breach is correct? No. But I am saying that we don't have the full story. When it is released that Sony had known about the breach days before then I will be all for them receiving the retribution they would rightfully deserve.

Their biggest problem will be gaining their customer's trust again. I foresee a dramatic drop in sales for them in that department, even if people can buy the cards in stores to use online. They should have beefed up their security, especially after their run in with Anonymous. At most, what I can most definitely blame them with at this point in time is negligence. They neglected to protect the PSN and I believe that a large part of the blame falls on the fact that the service is free. By no means and I saying that if it had been a pay-for service it would have been impregnable, but it would certainly have been better maintained.
