THQ extends Warhammer 40K licensing deal
17
THQ and Games Workshop are happy with the sweet war they're making together and have agreed to extend their Warhammer 40,000 license agreement. The "multi-year" extension gives THQ exclusive rights to publish games based on the franchise for all platforms and demographics (core, social and mobile).
THQ reiterated that it's currently working on two new IPs based in the futuristic fantasy universe: Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, a third-person shooter, is expected "later this year" (Note: the company previously stated "August"); and then there's the MMO, Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium, which is expected ... sometime in the future. We hope it won't become a contemporary piece for the year 40,000.
We've followed up with THQ for a more detailed definition of "multi-year." We figure it's longer than a year but shorter than the amount of time one can safely store an Ork's head in a breadbox.

I thought the acolytes of Khorne were supposed to be warriors, not a bunch of pansies.

They've done good with the IP so far. All the Dawn of War games are extremely solid, and Warhammer Space Marine is looking like it'll be a pretty fun ride.

You know what game I really want?
Take one part Ghost Recon, mix with the Imperial guard, shake well and praise Him on Earth.
Have one of the black library guard novelists pen the story, and you'd have the coolest 40k game ever.

Good, at least Games Workshop aren't doing their typical act of finding something that works well and shooting it in the head. THQ has done a better job of bringing out the flavor and awesome of 40k than GW most of the time.
Now if only they'd outsource their tabletop game rules to someone who knows what they're doing, like Fantasy Flight maybe.

@(Unverified) Fantasy Flight doesn't know what they're doing when it comes to 'rules' ...
If there's one company that makes great products, but always fudges up the rules, it's Fantasy Flight. Their rules of play are so atrocious, it takes at least two reprints until the average citizen can read through the rules and play the game on the spot. And their reprints take YEARS to materialize. Their Space Hulk: Death Angel Card game is incomprehensible without a guide to fix all the holes in their rulebook.

Sounds good.
Now if we could just get past the Space Marines and create an Imperial Guard game.
This is a pretty rich game world and so little of it is used.
Or How about a game Like Mass Effect where you play an Imperial Commissar. They could have a convo tree that goes from devout to cowardly.
