Great, now we will never be able to play online with our PS3's. I have a feeling the PSN is going to be down for a long time if not for good. If that is the case sony is going to go under giving refunds for all the purchased content over the years... Sure hope this gets resolved soon.

@Zippy Zapp Yeah, because Sony totally wants to destroy multiplayer gaming, demo downloading and full game downloading on it's system. Because, you know, that make sense.

@MAINEiac4434

And you know what? I was being sarcastic myself. Sony is a mega corp they can afford this disaster. The problem is I didn't realize until I read your sarcastic reply that I had failed to put the ;-) winky dink at the end.

The lawsuits were inevitable. There is alway someone that is going to try to take advantage of a bad situation and plenty of ambulance chasing lawyers that will help.

I don't know what pisses me off more... the hackers that stole our personal data, Sony for failing to keep our personal data secure, or some of the commenters that think we should let Sony's neglegance slide.

they just made an update, and confirmed CC data WAS/IS Encrypted, but other data was not. Other data was behind sophisticated security system, though.

Don't shoot the messenger, just relaying.

I duhnno, unless the person filing the lawsuit actually had their information taken and someone was using their credit card, I don't think that the case will hold water. Yeah what Sony did was stupid, but unless people have actually had instances of money being stolen, there really isn't anything to sue for.

"reasonable care to protect, encrypt, and secure the private and sensitive data of its users."This is the key phrase. I'm sure sony had "Reasonable" and that these hackers are just good.The theory that this was long-planned is probably true. They waited for a chance, and ANON gave them the chance so they took it. Though a more recent article than this Sony claims the credit card information is still encrypted and safe.

Sony needs to get sued for this, but the person who is suing Sony doesn't deserve a dime unless they are truly effected by what happened to Sony.

This lawsuit will only ever generate a payday for the lawyers.

@GreenElf
You are 100% correct. This lawsuit accomplishes NOTHING except enriching the lawyer dirtbags.

Users will not benefit AT ALL. Not monetarily and not with better security. Money that could have been used to further improve the new PSN will instead be diverted into pointless legal defense.

People who cheer this kind of nonsense on deserve the end results.

So.. card cancelled, had a nice conversation with my bank (who's very much aware of this PSN epic failure), fraud alert placed on my accounts, security freeze researched. Gotta wait 'till tomorrow or the next day until my loot drops though (new card to replace the one that's reported as stolen).

Not exactly the game that I expected to play this evening.

First of all.this is a bunch of bullshit...why sue sony?
1. most of our IMPORTNAT INFO: is safe such as credit card numbers.. etc. ( they are encryted...) ..
2. ..THE HACKERS caused this...sony has out best interest..that's why they shutdown the network in the first to prevent the hacking to spread.....they are already losing tons of money from the network shutdown
3. The lawfirms are doing this for the MONEY..they don't give a shit about us gamers...the amount of money they will recieve ( 15-30%) of the money .... that would be over millions.... someone is retiring at the end of the year.... they don't give to shit about us.its just a douche move to take advantage of this situation and make money off of it

I can't believe what I'm reading here. People just think it's ok for all this information to be leaked out on the internet. Let me tell you guys something, with your billing address, name and all the other stuff they got they can easily do some damage to you. Not to mention 70 million people (some who are minors mind you) are now exposed to the internet. Not sure about you but I wouldn't want anyone know where I lived and my kids lived unless I told them personally. Not only that but Sony and most other companies always say that it will not give this information to outside sources and it will be kept private, that is no longer true. This isn't about the hacker, they were in the wrong. It's about how sony failed to protect 70 million users data and didn't even warn them about it until a week later because they weren't sure. In this day and age with id theft at an all time high, They should have came forward from day 1 and made sure the public was aware that it was a possibility.

Can't wait to get my e-mail asking me whether or not to join the class action. I'll gladly do so.

Considering the recent Supreme Court decision on another case involving class action lawsuits, who knows if this will even go anywhere. They've basically set a precedent that says "too bad, each case should be individual" even though no lawyer will do one case in this situation because the award would be miniscule.

@UrielItachi

The whole point is that Sony didn't do their best. Their not trying to keep things calm for our sake, their trying to cover their ass because they messed up big. The multi-billion dollar corporation doesn't need you defending it and it isn't "childish" for people to worry about their identities being stolen.
