Namco Bandai site teases 'new chapter,' likely next Soulcalibur

We've known a new Soul Calibur game is coming since back in December and now it would appear that Namco Bandai is finally ready to make a formal announcement. Well, not now now. Like, in two weeks.

A site teasing a "new chapter" in something has recently emerged online, counting down to May 11 -- presumably when the identity of said chapter will be announced. Corroborating the mid-May reveal is a tweet from Soul Calibur's "current game director" Daishi Odashima promising "to announce something" at that time. If we were rating the mystery behind this reveal, we'd probably give it an F. Minus.

Awesome. Here's hoping there's more modes this time and a better story.

Last generation's Soul Calibur games felt like they had more in them than 4, IMO. There was online of course in 4 but I felt that the story mode was lacking and kinda lazy plus there wasn't really much to do in terms of multiplayer modes.

Or Baten Kaitos.

@Gaddes my fav too! I love her feints. They really help with the payoff. Show the opponent the same combo a few times and then change it up with a feint. Hopefully they attempt to parry air and open themselves up for an ugly followup.

Nightmare for me and its a day one buy and with Trophies Listen to the fans and add who "we" want in the game and it will sell :)

Soul Calibur II is still my favorite game in the series.

I hope they discontinue the trend of making the female character's breasts larger than the size of their head. Ivy was big-breasted in SC II, but in SC IV it was just ridiculous. If they do keep this trend up I half-expect Ivy to just become a giant pair of breast yielding a whip.

I understand that sex sells, but can we at least keep things somewhat proportional? Please?

@Calatia I still like Ivy best in SC 1. I like breasts as much as the next guy, but I like my Soul Series subtler (and I know SC 1's female characters weren't exactly puritan nuns fighting for women's rights.)

Though it goes hand in hand with the series being more overdesigned every chapter. Looking at Sigfried's armor in SC4 honestly hurts my eyes. I can't look at it.

If they build on the Soul Calibur IV game and don't get rid of some of the better features, this is going to be a must-buy for me. I've been a fan of the series since Soul Blade though.

I wasn't too keen on the Star Wars tie-in in SCIV though, it felt TOO MUCH like an advert for Force Unleashed. While I like Star Wars, it was just such a cynical addition that it jarred with me every time I fought the Apprentice.

Apart from that, I'd like to echo wishes for a more involved story-mode.

Next .hack saga? A man can dream.

If any of u remember SC III, and that mode where u create your own character and go through the maps..if they bring that back and the option of using the ACTUAL ninja class and not jus Taki and Setsuka's classes like SCIV, the game would be alot more fun in my opinion, and when coming to char.creation. they should bring back ALL the armor options from SCIII and even add the option of purchasing the traditional costumes/armors from the old SC's. and finally refferring to the guest character- Put Kratos back since Ps3 didnt get em and maybe Raiden or Grey Fox..there pretty legit fighting combatants right?

@(Unverified) Agreeing with NEEDING SCIII's character creation mode. I sold SCIV because that character creation mode was pure shit. Seriously, that's a game breaker for me, Namco. You spoiled me.

I really could care less for exclusive characters. They never fit well with the story, at least to me.

Also, would it kill you to get a GOOD opening movie and theme for a change? Nothing gets me ready to cut a bitch faster than The Edge of Soul.

Besides, some people just like to bitch, don't they? Character creation in SCIII was plain, single-minded and boring. That's not just me saying, it is almost every reviewer out there. SCIV CC, on the other hand, added a lot. I wasn't too crazy about it at first, but unless you master it, it can get pretty rough to complete Tower of Souls.

I'm not saying the game is perfect. I'd exchange the "extra" game mode (this case being Tower of Souls) by something more along the lines of SCI Mission Mode or SCII Weapon Master Mode. And the history mode needs to be remodelled, given that SCIII story mode was far superior.

@Tinkus Yes!!! I put in my PS1 Soul Edge disc occassionally just to hear that great theme song! A great beat!!

I gotta admit, the thing which always threw me off about this game, was that you're fighting with sharp weaponry, but hits result in glowy sparks.

I'm not asking for Mortal Kombat, but visually it just doesn't add up is all

It would be a dumb reason, yes. That's why I don't pass on the series. And even thouhg I play and enjoy it, I still find that that part of it looks stupid

Namco sucked ever since 2000. I'm not holding my breath.

Soul Calibur, MvC, Mortal Kombat, SF, Tekken...I guess the fighting genre has yelled out emphatically "Wait, I'm not dead yet!"

If they do Move support for this along similar lines to the gladiator combat in Sports Champions I think I might go for it :)

When I read Namco Bandai and new chapter the first thing that came to my mind was Tales of Graces, but its all right I still dig Soul Calibur.

Every promo tie in character has been a waste of disc space. The Star Wars ones were the worst. It doesn't matter how balanced they are, they just throw you out of the setting so hard it's jarring. Namco doesn't seem to care about that though (look at Tekken's extra costumes) so I'll just expect Cmd. Shepard and Noby Noby Boy in SC5.

If Amy isn't in this one I will murder everyone ever.

This sounds stupid, but WHAT IF they put in Naruto and Sasuke in SCV that would be funny
