Despite its premium price, one of Square Enix's earliest attempts at an original title for iOS is getting not one, but two follow-ups. The latest issue of Famitsu reports (via Andriasang) that Chaos Rings, which debuted on the App Store for an unprecedented $13 last year, will see a prequel, Chaos Rings Omega, released next month in Japan, followed by Chaos Rings 2 at a later date.
Available for iOS devices, the original game is a turn-based dungeon crawler with arena battles featuring four teams of two characters. Square Enix's teaser ad for the Chaos Rings sequel doesn't hint at what (if any) changes we can expect to that gameplay formula, but we're hoping that, on the technical side, both it and Chaos Rings Omega are universal apps with iPad 2 enhancements to help soften the inevitable sticker shock.

Spoken like someone who doesn't own a PSP. Infact I'd put money on you not owning a PSP, you'd have to not own one to say something **that** stupid.
But let's keep on-topic from now on.
Tactics Ogre
FF Tactics A2
Dissidia 1 and 012
Final Fantasy Four Heroes of Light
Final Fantasy IV DS
These are examples of superb titles from Square Enix from the last 5 years, all of which are much better than Chaos Rings.
(pwning noobs with logic and breadth of gameplay experience)

Allow me to break down why you're a dick:
1) I clearly said ONE OF the best. Square has released a couple excellent games in the past five years; I was merely saying this was one of them.
2) I owned a PSP for nearly 4 years! Played only a handful of times. The battery life on my unit never lasted more than 5 hours and I couldn't justify paying 40 dollars for most of the PSP games. I was more of a DS guy...
3) "These are examples of superb titles from Square Enix from the last 5 years, all of which are much better than Chaos Rings."
Uh-oh...someone didn't get their Welcome to the Internet package I see. Here, it was supposed to come with this:

4) Pwning noobs? Really? People still say that? Your gamertag wouldn't happen to be xXxsephiroth420xXx, would it?

Then why haven't you played Four Heroes of Light, the DS remakes of FF3 and 4, Oh I forgot about Dragon Quest too! It just sounds like you wanted to make a brash statement about SE making bad games and this being their only good one (Chaos Rings). Which makes you very wrong.
But either way. SE make mostly good games. Even FF13 scored highly.
So yeah. Go back and be angry at another developer and widen the amount of games you play before making such sweeping statements?
Got it?
Good.

You are manufacturing reasons to be upset at and feel superior to someone. They never said SE made bad games. In fact they explicitly said the opposite. They are saying that, of the good games that SE has made in the past few years, Chaos Rings is one of the best, in their opinion.

The first game was great, and I even bought it before the price cuts and thought it was worth it. Hopefully the new ones will live up to expectations.

Finally, the first one was better than FFXIII.

Question: is Chaos Rings good, story-wise? I don't want to sink 15 bucks into an RPG on a small touch screen device, but I'm willing to suffer a bit if the story/narrative is worth it.

Perhaps they're putting all their monetary and human resources into making their Sonic games as best as they can be.

I wish Square would actually learn how to code for iOS properly. All of their iOS games have amateurish technical defects which should embarrass any developer.
They still haven't learned how to turn texture filtering on (a feature standard in every 3D iOS game ever made) or mip mapping, let alone dip their feet into the scary waters of normal and specular mapping. Then there are the frame rate issues, and how Square seem incapable of getting even 2D games running at 60fps on iOS. Even 30fps is something they very rarely achieve.
In a post Infinity Blade iOS world, sloppy coding just isn't acceptable anymore, but based on this new Chaos Rings sequel it looks like we're in for more poor frame rates and unfiltered textures.

Yet again I will say who gives a damn where's my Final Fantasy Tactics for ipad, and all the rest of the turn based strategy games that seem like the perfect game type for these devices yet no one is makeing quality versions of these. RTS games are horrible for ios devices

Ah, Chaos Rings, my under-appreciated friend! Shocking proof that a) there is at least one good platform exclusive RPG for the iPhone/iPad and b) Square Enix can make good new games when they try!
