If you managed to delay purchasing Valve's gooey, robot-filled puzzler, Portal 2, your patience is about to be rewarded: Two major retailers are significantly cutting the price of the game this weekend. According to the Kmart Gamer Facebook page, the title will be marked down to $34.99 on 360 and PS3 starting May 1 -- an offer that will be running for an undisclosed period of time.
A tipster also sent in an unreleased GameStop circular, revealing that stores will have the 360 and PS3 versions of Portal 2 on sale for a slightly-less-discounted $39.99, but will also have the PC version on sale for $29.99 on April 30. No matter how you slice it, the value-to-science ratio here is simply unbelievable.
[Thanks, MLC!]

This game is pissing me off.
Remember in the '90s when we would play Tetris, and then when we closed our eyes to go to sleep that night we would just see those blocks falling everywhere?
This morning, I go into a meeting in a windowless conference room with white panel walls, and my mind keeps trying to place orange and blue portals everywhere.

that reminds of when I used to play pokemon blue. I played it so much that I used to hear pokemon music and actually go check to see if my game boy was on, only to find that it was off.
if portal 2 is that good to have you doing that, I think im going to go pick it up this sunday, no problem paying 40 and under for a ps3 game.

I thought the same thing, but If you read the article it says that "A tipster also sent in an unreleased GameStop circular, revealing that stores will have the 360 and PS3 versions of Portal 2 on sale for a slightly-less-discounted $39.99"
I assume the picture is from the Gamestop circular which is selling it for $39.99.

In order to redeem the PC version that comes with the PS3 version, you need to link your PSN and Steam accounts, which of course you can't do until the PSN is back.

I payed $50 on the PC. It's a great game, but I'll admit that I felt like it was a little short. Kind of wish I had waited, but I had a gaming itch last week and steam was there to scratch it.

I buy a 3DS and banned myself from buying games for a few months...except there have been SO many good game deals lately I ended up buying like 5...and NOW this!

@Jawmuncher Yep,wait a week or two and the prices come tumbling. Savy gamers can save a lot these days. Obviously for some titles it is worth the early adoption but I'm glad I waited. Mainly for my backlog to clear but not missing out on this one. Too good to turn down.

Although, if you did amazon's console pre-order (w/ $20 gift card), you got the same value.
If you had split a two pack on Steam with a friend, I think you were only paying $5 more than GameStop's offer, but personally, I'd rather burn a $5 bill than give it to GameStop.

yep, I rarely buy full ($60) price games anymore. A couple devs have earned my day 1 purchases but, as you said, the current trend (started a couple years ago) is for games to drop price crazy fast. This is a perfect example. I wasn't really planning on picking it up since I have some others I need to finish AND I've still never played part 1 but this is a really damn good deal; gonna have to think hard about it.

Seriously: If you've got the computing power, or an HD console, and don't plan on playing Portal 2; your machine deserves to be launched off an aerial faith plate.
No excuses, internet. $50 - $60 is a fair compensation. $30 - $40 is a steal.

It was just a silly trying-to-be-clever quip, not a bully tactic. I don't really care what people play.
"Hey, play this game if you think you might like it. You might not, but I did, and I like to think that the stuff I like is likeable stuff - but if you don't like it that's no big deal" isn't really a persuasive or interesting pitch.

You know, I love Portal. I bought it at $60 on the day of release. Well, I got my $5 off for pre-ordering. Anyway, I've not bought a new release game since... Heavy Rain, I think. I mean, I still play MvC 3 every day, but I never paid full, day one price since Heavy Rain. I'm glad more people will get to experience Portal 2, now. I really am. And I'm glad Valve will make more money (BTW, how is this game dropping so much. Retailers paid $54.50 per copy, how can this work out? I mean, sure, K-Mart gets more shoppers in the store, but how does GS benefit?) I just feel the slightest bit annoyed that a week and a half after release, late comers get to save money. /rant

Also, MK will be $40 @ Toys R Us starting Sunday as well.

@MLC I preordered from amazon the PS3 (+PC) version for $35 (55-20 general, not gaming amazon credit, so actually worth $20). It was a great deal, and I'm surprised it didn't get more publicity before release - especially since it was cheaper than the PC version alone anywhere that I saw.
