Make-A-Wish and PopCap help 9-year-old create his own iOS game
32
PopCap and the Make-A-Wish foundation recently teamed up to help 9-year-old Owain Weinert, who was diagnosed with Leukemia last year, realize his dream of creating his very own iOS game. The developer took Weinert's idea for the title -- a real-time strategy game called Allied Star Police -- and turned it into a fully-fledged product which is set to launch on the iPad and iPhone App Stores sometime within the next few months. Best of all, the proceeds from the game will go directly to Make-A-Wish, forming some kind of beautiful circle of altruism.

Agree. He's pretty charismatic.
Also, a *high-five* to PopCap for their contribution. That was awesome of them.

If I owned anything that supported this game, I'd totally buy it.
I personally hate RTS, but I'd still buy it. That kid inspired me to donate some moneys! 3 monies!

This makes me proud of the gaming community as a whole, despite the filth one encounters on a daily basis on Xbox Live.

Yet kids like these which are completely amazing, are taken away early due to disease, yet assholes that provide nothing to humanity get to live to a ripe old age.
The universe sucks sometimes.

So, now, another question - what will the piracy rate be on this game?
Ideally 0, but still likely someone will do the wrong thing and pirate the hell out of this.

VERY happy for that kid.
When I was 10 my younger brother had cancer at the age of 7. It was really tough and like the mom said, those hospital stays are brutal.
Popcap and Make A Wish, total class. Great story.

I had a friend die of Cystic Fibrosis at age 18, and Make-A-Wish was there for him, as they are for this boy and every dying child. Thanks Pop-Cap in helping Make-A-Wish fulfill this boys dying wish! Thank you Make-a-Wish! I hope we strive for the day that your services won't be needed, but until then, I hope people continue to support you in your effects to make terminally I'll children and their families happy. I don't play RTS games, but I will buy it for both my iPhone and iPad.
