SSX dev diary brings back some familiar faces

Though it sounds like SSX is mixing up the franchise in some fairly bold ways, it won't be throwing out the series' tried and true cast of downhill daredevils. Check out the developer diary after the jump to see how EA Canada is breathing new life into these powder-caked veterans.

I spent hour upon hour playing SSX Tricky on PS2.

@kojo87 That's some dedication. We all know how heart-wrenchingly hard the Flying Squirrel was to pull of. Good memories, hard times.

Getting more and more stoked about this. Glad EA has listened to the collective horror of a million SSX fans after their first reveal and started soothing our fears

Exactly that first trailer was downright horrid.
We need a new one soon, though this will tide me over till then.

Anyone else catch the different levels of wingsuit? I love a little rpg in my sports title to help feel like your progressing.
I wish I still had my ps2 and SSX3... so many good times as you do your thing coming down from the higher ground all while dodging the avalanches all the way down to the bitter end. I loved when you would emerge after a screw up only to be reaching hypersonic speed a few seconds later and continue playing the snow patrol all whilst diving off the deep end. I would always wobble like this rockstar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGWAexa61kc) after landing an insane trick that no one knew was even possible.
I loved ssx 3 and hope that this new iteration has a decent soundtrack.

Agreed on the soundtrack, as much as SSX is rocking, it was the music which made it feel the way it did when we played it, Tricky especially for me.
Love it - hope they mash it up good style!
(Same goes for the Motorstorm games =- rocking tracks, rocking game = success)

I have to say I like the new Elise. While still a bit exaggerated for your target audience, you can make a woman sexy without looking like a $5 trick (SSX Trick, ugh).

Arrrrgh my Xbox just red-ringed, so for the foreseeable future, I'll just be playing PC and DS.
I'm going to have to buy either another Xbox or a PS3 when this comes out, though.

I don't know if any of the roster has been released yet, but I'd like to see the following ten characters return:
Mac, Moby, Psymon, Nate Logan, Viggo
Elise, Kaori, Zoe, Allegra, Marisol
Each video definitely gets me more and more excited for this game though

So... no character costume customization this time? That would really suck, if that were the case. I'm a little disappointed with the costumes that they showed in this. They're making it look less like it takes place in the SSX world and more like it takes place in a Burton catalog. I really hope I don't have to stare at those stupid ice axes on the backs of every character for the entire game either.

Well this is good to see, hopefully it'll hit on all the same cylinders that Tricky did, I had trouble getting into the series after that one and stopped caring. As for characters, Elise and Psymon are the only ones I care about, and Elise only in the vain hope that Lucy Lui voices her again. =o
