@mmmfishtacos I believe you are talking about port forwarding and I have all the ports open. Been doing that since good ol' days of cs1.6

@Nightay Each console needs to be set up on it own cable and it own port, it's been quite awhile sense I've set up a router to Handel a ps3, so I've forgotten all the details. But once its set up right it will be on par with the 360 or out perform it, the only game that I can remember giving me any lag problems would be call of duty, and it's lags the same on both consoles. That's just the nature of p2p crap, but when a game has it's own servers it runs like butter. Uc2, Socom, war hawk, ect... I stopped playing on live awhile ago, giving every 12 year old a head set is a bad idea, don't really care about cross game chat anyway. So there's no advantages for me to be worth paying for.

@leemahi - I wasn't in the Sony camp over Geohotz but in this situation they better damn well sue who's responsible for this.

This was reckless and malicious.

@leemahi

Your right, instead of just merely suing, they should file criminal charges and stick 'em in butt-pounding prison.

Well considering this was part of the initial sh!tstorm anyway, its no real surprise.

The bottom line on all of this, they really need to find the people responsible and stick their @$$ *under* the damn jail.

I really hope this does not hurt Sony as much as I am thinking it would be a sad day to see them leave the Video game business( I know its not that bad but its pretty damn bad). I really hope they recover.

I doubt this is true - they've probably known about the lost credit card info all along, but in best japanese fashion kept it secret to the public. This is their way of finally putting it out in the open, while trying to cover their asses from the inevitable public backlash.

No, actually, with proper security it _couldn't_ happen. I worked for a very large financial company; I had root access to every unix machine in the company. Even if my account had been compromised, it wouldn't have allowed the attacker to steal massive amounts of data quickly, because the data was encrypted. It would probably have been possible to manage to dig out the necessary info to gain SQL access to one of the DBs if you had control of my account, but trying to pull _all_ of the data out that way would have triggered alarms. Further, a database from 2007 that still contained personal data should have not been online. Sorry, Sony (like far too many companies) simply didn't consider security to be worth the hassle.

I sure am glad Final Fantasy XI used PlayOnline and not SOE back when I played it.

I'll continue never using their service.

Wow. I would hate to be in the shoes of the person that is head over these systems, most likely the CIO or VP of IS. Can you say, update your resume? And to be safe you better not include your Sony Job experience!

This is unfortuante news for Sony, but I don't feel bad for SOE because it is terrible anyway and needs to be cut loose or shut down or something. Have they done anything good lately? It seems like they're still just riding the whole Everquest thing, which was innovative at the time but now that WoW has come and brutalized that market, it seems pretty dated and unnecessary.

This morning my credit card (capitalone) tripped the fraud protection. This card was used this morning for a number of computer/technology related transactions and was compromised during sony's breach of security. This card is kept in a safe at home and is only used for a few other online merchants (amazon, bigbadtoystore, sony, and a couple others). I suspect the fraud activity is from the breach the other week.
