So how is Harmony of Despair I know it's MP focused and that's about it.

It's also a serious grind. Impossible to beat on first few attempts. My biggest problem with it is you're on a time limit and all 4 players start at different sections of the massive map. So it's a rush to get together and attempt bosses.

Not that impressive. It's poised as an old school Castlevania game, but falls flat fairlly quickly. It's like they tried so hard at making it look like Castlevania of old that they didn't bother making it fun.

I'm wondering the same thing. I loved SoTN, but I don't quite get the concept of HoD.
I would preferably be playing it alone.
Thanks to anyone who can help :)

@whylekat The time limit was the single biggest mistake they made with that game. Where's the fun if I can't take my time to explore?

Most of the people that are complaining about the time limit are either extremely lazy or haven't actually played the game. The majority of the levels aren't so large as to take up 20 minutes, leaving you with a ten minute boss fight.

That said. I enjoyed the game in a solo play, but I find all the DLC for characters a huge pain in the ass. There's something like 5 characters and two extra stages available for all around a buck or two a pop.

@Jawmuncher Don't let these guys deter you from an interesting and enjoyable take on Castlevania. If you're a Castlevania fan it's almost a must buy thanks in part to the return of basically every all-star character from the series, and the new concepts: six person mulitplayer, the level functioning as a map, and a 30 minute time constraint.

The grind is only a bother if you're going for the greatest weapons in the game, and players can do quite well, even on hard mode, without them. Likewise, the 30 minute time limit is only troublesome the first time or two you play a level (follow other multiplayer characters to remedy).

There are several major character-based gameplay designs, tag-team attacks, more secrets than you can shake a whip at, and cooperative multiplayer gameplay. Give it a shot.

@Jawmuncher Personally, I didn't find HoD to be that great, until I played it with my friends. With all of us going our own way on the map, it made for quite a few "Oh crap this guy isn't going down, I need help here!" moments... so I think your enjoyment will depend heavily on the number of and attitude of friends playing alongside you.

I want Harmony of Despair, but I don't have anyone to play with. And I don't have any money.

I've pretty much been waiting for Harmony of Despair to drop in price since launch. I'm a huge Castlevania fan and loved all the DS games, which this seems to be heavily based from.

My hesitation was that I'd be spending 1200 MS points on this multiplayer focused game and have no one to play with since none of my friends really showed much interest in it. At least at 600 points, it won't be such a rough hit if I'm forced to play alone or I don't like it. Also, at the lower price point, it's easier to talk my disinterested friends into getting it anyway so we have another game to play online co-op together. This discount is a win-win for me! Now do I want to play as Jonathan or Shanoa?

Harmony was the biggest waste of 1200 points ever. Even something like the HD update of the R-Type games is worth 1200 points, but this wasn't. I can't even recommend it at half price, though; instead, go play Lords of Shadow if you haven't already. But not this travesty.
