According to Japanese blog Tale Tale Source (as translated by Andriasang), the upcoming issue of Weekly Shonen Jump includes an announcement of a new entry in Namco Bandai's Dragon Ball fighter series. The game, which is (assumedly tentatively) titled Dragon Ball Game Project Age 2011, is reported to focus on "3D fighting action," a blanket descriptor which could easily apply to the many Budokais which have come before it.
The blog also mentions that the magazine lists Dragon Ball Game Project Age 2011 for a Fall 2011 release in Japan on Xbox 360 and PS3. We'll keep an ear to the ground for any news about the title and its American launch plans. Considering how loud those Dragon Ball guys yell, we don't think it's going to be too hard to hear.

This. Budokai 3 was the last Dragonball game I actually enjoyed. The Tenkaichi series was ok, but the free-roam (ironically) wasn't cinematic enough for me. I had high hopes for Burst Limit, but lack of characters and customization left it kind of stale.

Budokai 3 was amazing, if we could get a fourth one that expanded on 3, stuck to the same fighting systems and just built upon it well..
also, Infinite World doesn't count because it sucked.

I don't know, I prefer Tenkaichi 1/2/3 and the Raging Blast series. Raging Blast wasn't great, but Tenkaichi just captured the Dragon Ball series for me. Could transform at will, free-flying around maps, huge destruction.
Raging Blast 2 combat was intense, but Tenkaichi 3 was by far better. Tenkaichi 4 pl0x.

I bought Budoakai 1,2, 3, and Tenkaichi 1 and 2.
Budokai 1 got me into the series with its cut scenes and fighting.
Budkai 2 had that board game style story mode which was also pretty cool
Budokai 3 was simply amazing. The fighters were mostly balanced and very customizable. It is one of my favorite games of all time.
So, with a good budokai track record, I bought Tenkaichi 1.
1st reaction: what's with all this flying crap?
After being dissappointed by Tenkaichi 1, I bought Tenkaichi 2... for the wii
Initial thought: Woah! I get to actually reenact the kamehamaha!
1st reaction:... what? You want me to point outside the screen, then back in to do special attacks?
I have no idea how the series is now, but I think they're just making too many games to be honest. You don't need a new DBZ fighter every year. If only the company could have spent all the time it spent making 10 versions of the same game, they could have just made one masterpiece instead of a bunch of mediocre games.

Let me just say, most Wii ports of PS2 games are great. Phantom Brave, Okami, others. Dragon Ball games did not translate well. Especially with the motion controls. Sure, I felt cool for 13.4 seconds when I performed a Kamehameha, but after getting brutally destroyed, switched to my CCPro.
And you're right, they don't need a DB/Z game ever year, but I love it. I'm one of those sick freaks who just can't get enough of a great, but dying franchise. I'm the Japanese-loving version of CoD fans.
I want another Dragon Ball RPG though. Attack of the Saiyans was amazing. Legacy of Goku 1 and 2 were great, as was Buu's Fury. That weird one on the SNES where it was sort of card-based was awesome too. Tenkaichi 4 or another RPG would be amazing. Hell, even an action/adventure game.

Not really. Compared to other anime, DBZ is really one of the few that actually has (or had, depending who you ask) a strong hold in America.

@Vegeta has a ps3 - Definitely had. Funimation's (and the anime industry in general) decline is proof enough of that.
It's still huge in Japan, which is why these games keep getting made.

I enjoyed Raging Blast 2, but not really enough to buy it. I had borrowed it. I kept telling myself I'd get it if it went cheap, but by the time it reaches a price I like Raging Blast 3 will be out, I'll get my hands on a copy someway, play it for a few days, return it to whomever, and go about this little dance once again.
The OVA that came with Raging Blast 2 almost got me to buy it... until I watched it and realized that I wasn't really that excited to call it my own.

Burst limit wasn't bad online was terrible but if it had actual more modes and characters could have been like a Budokai 4 but they failed. I'm tired of 3D open area fighting. Just give me Budokai 4 and make me a happy man once again.

I rented Raging Blast 2 and I was glad to return it. Almost thought I wasted a dollar. I'm probably done on DBZ fighters until they fix the game, it just doesnt' vibe with me.
But I'm happily enjoying Mortal Kombat right now. Finally a MK that delivers.

Still waiting for them to get the story mode right again. budoki 1 had the best story mode and 3 had the best game play. I played the crap out of the budoki games, beautiful memories.

I like Budokai 3 and Tenaichi 2/3 (2 for the story mode, 3 for the characters and versus mode).
I played Burst Limit with some friends and we got bored quickly, so we ended up playing Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm instead (that was before the second one came out). It was nowhere near as good as Budokai 3.
I haven't played the first Raging Blast, but I hired the second. The game is pretty good, but has two problems: the online play is as bad as Naruto's (the lobby system is crap), and it's harder than any other DBZ game because even though you always had to have precise timing, this one takes the cake for split-second precession. I like lots of combos, but they could perhaps tone it down a little.
It's not like these games are targeted at the guys who play Tekken and Street Fighter etc. - more just DBZ/anime fans and people who like slightly more relaxed fighting games, I guess. For that reason, it seems that the game is fairly difficult. I love how there's a trophy/achievement for "earning five losses online".
Personally, I prefer the free-roaming style of Tenkaichi and Raging Blast, because it's different to all those other 2D fighting games. I just hope that they make the best DBZ game yet and not just another mediocre one.

This is pretty good news in my opinion. they seem to be missing the mark with Raging Blast, not that I don't enjoy it but it's more like a shiny Tenkaichi 3 they dumbed down a bit.
