well it will most likely be good, but i think that it lessens the specialness of the series when it is released so much.

@Colostomeboy I've gotta I didn't finish AC:BH, hell I didn't even get halfway through the game when I stopped because I felt burnt out. I'll play this new entry eventually, unless they do something new.

I disagree. The frequency of the series' iterations do not in any way diminish the "specialness" of this series. The quality of the sequels will speak for themselves. If they can churn out great games packed in content on a yearly basis, I'm all for it. You have to remember that the team that built Assassin's Creed 1 is not the same size that built AC: Brotherhood. And in this way, the devs can take bigger projects and in less time as we've seen.

Totally agree. Brotherhood was an awesome game. To me it did not feel rushed at all, the quality was superb and there were lots of new features. Totally felt the opposite on Dragon Age 2.. now that one felt really rushed.

People like to think that the games lose value when they're released yearly. Not so, because the stories of all of the games are so gripping I always tend to scream for more at the end of every game. It's not like Call of Duty where it's rehash upon rehash of a similar mechanic of kill dudes and multiplayer stagnation.

It's such a story driven experience that I feel the yearly releases are welcome. And it also helps that the graphics, character design and gameplay improve by leaps and bounds over previous titles.

and also people need to realize that if this game doesnt happen, ACIII will be filled with Desmond Stuck in the Animus.

@HybridPara A bit pretentious aren't ya. As ridiculous as the stories are on COD, they are stories (pop corn) non the less. For you to act all high and mighty as if somehow AC is the end all be all is laughable.

The jump from AC to ACII was a drastic improvement, but from AC:II to AC:BH was pretty much more of the same.

I'm already tired of AC because this is going to be the third game with Ezio, if they wanted to keep this series fresh a new ancestor should have been done.

Uh, this is Assassin's Creed...a Ubisoft game. Which means it'll hit $40 within a month, and $30 before the end of the year. This has happened with every AC game released so far.

I don't know what you mean by pretentious.

"The jump from AC to ACII was a drastic improvement, but from AC:II to AC:BH was pretty much more of the same."

I think you meant
"The jump from AC to AC:II was a drastic improvement. Likewise, with AC:II to AC:BH, the improvements were just as notable. I sure hope AC:R will have improvements that are just as great in scale so as to end Ezio's story on a great note while also leading us into the eventual Desmond related plot-hook that is so juicy that my body might never be ready for Assassin's Creed 3 until I experience it in 2012."

As long as companies can keep the level of quality up with an annual series, I have no problem with it. It's when you start releasing basically the same game year after year that it gets to be stupid (e.g. Madden, Call of Duty). If I can get an outstanding game on an annual basis, I'm all for it.

Before brotherhood I thought annual assassin's creed would be a bad thing but that ended up being my favorite in the series so I guess I will give this one a chance. I was hoping for a new ancestor though.

@ZoneoftheEnders they should end this game's storyline with a teaser of a new ancestor slightly hinting at the probable setting for AC3.. that would be awesome!

I realize you aren't overtly complaining, but I don't know why everyone wants to play another ancestor so badly. Many game series only ever have you play as one character and in two iterations AC had you play three main characters. Ezio and Desmond are interesting characters and hopefully Altair will get the same treatment in this upcoming game. Having several main storylines and characters warrants the extra time they are taking with each.

I know this will be the third game since Ezio was introduced, but it still stands that many games go much longer and never change the main character (Kratos has been in five GoW games across the PSP, PS2, and PS3, and no one complains). I don't know why many commenters are coming down so harshly on Assassin's Creed.

@shojx I think it's kind of funny people want this now. It's great.

Before II was even announced I was saying that was what they would be driving towards with the series, and the idea was treated as a blasphemy. I'll be glad to see it come as well.

@Jawmuncher No, you're not. No matter how good the games are, it just feels cheap having a new one every year, especially when they're all filled with broken concepts that need to be fixed up or pruned altogether when the next game comes along. A good three year development cycle would do the series some good, and help with the overexposure.

@UbisoftMontreal A sequel to Prince of Persia '08 in the interim would suffice.

Or you could just not buy Brotherhood till this one comes out. I have so many games and so little time that the yearly release date actually benefits me since by the time I'll get around to buying it, the price will have dropped.

@Jawmuncher No, you're most definitely not. What they should have done is change ancestors with every game and not give 3 to Ezio. At some point Desmonds story must end, and instead of getting different characters, locations and time periods, we are basically just getting Ezio's lifetime.

Got to say that i really wanted another assassin and another time period. I mean Ezio again? really? There are so many places this could have taken place and they decide on this...Victorian England or better yet Revolution America. so is this supposed to be AC3? ugh.....thank you Ubisoft for starting to dilute my favorite series...This is going the way of Prince of Persia....and we know where the IP stands...

Revolution America! If there's one thing the Assassin's Creed series has done, at least in my mind, is remind me of all of the untapped time periods in real history that would make better settings than the majority of fantasy settings used by so many game companies.

Also, and unrelated, when they say fairy chimneys they mean rock wangs. Just had to sort that out.

I believe otherwise.

There wasn't much added to the PoP series whereas AC has an amazing continuous story annually. And they also up the gameplay each year.

I also think that they're giving them all subtitles for a reason. Assassin's Creed, AC II, then AC Brotherhood, now Revelations, I think they're saving AC III for an all new assassin.

Admittedly i agree with the feeling annual releases have. Whilst Assasins Creed has generally only ever gotten better. Its years like this (where Q4 is crowded as it is) where the situation turns bad for me.

Shelling out for a game I want purely because its the next in an epic saga is one of the main reasons im purchasing the game (i've imple got to know how the awesomeness ends). Which when stacked up to those extra special "Must gets" such as Skyward Sword (for being the 1st of its kind of this Gen/for 4 years) or Battlefield 3 (because its replay values for me's going to extend its life until god knows when) Makes this release less special.

Which is unfair in a sense. But thats they system i've adopted.

I wanted a new assassin as well. Ezio's story is already well presented. Maybe this is just another expansion of ac2 though, not part of the numbered series like brotherhood. I'm still excited for this game though. I just hope it doesn't turn into a cash cow like CoD

@Torticoli But I have no regrets buying it. Sure, Brotherhood was 2.5, and some of the assets were probably built for AC2, but they've improved the engine, combat system, and listened to response as they should.

I'm okay with this one. At first I was a little disappointed, but as long as we get a proper Assassin's Creed 3 next time, I'll let this one slide. That's, of course, assuming they take their time with it. It would be a terrible shame pushing AC3 out the door in one year's time (unless another team is already working on it).
