I've been surprisingly productive this week, but I'd still like PSN back up some time soon so I can do some online Portal Kombat.

Amen, brother. (or sister) Ive been waiting to play MK online since 4/19. If I had known this was gonna happen, I would have saved Story Mode and the Tower for last. Not to mention Brink! My God, I dont want to buy Brink for 360, but I may have to.

Curse you hackers. I just want to sync my account to my new ps3, and play Killzone 3 and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Is that too much to ask?

I did too. My Phat 80 Gig's Blu Ray Drive Bought it, and so I had to get a new slim. I managed to transfer my save files, but now I have lost all my carefully earned Dead Space 2 Trophies.

Trophies are tied to your account, not the PlayStation. They should sync up when the PSN comes back.

That said, I'd really like to start playing some Portal 2 Co-Op... so yeah... next week... early in the week hopefully eh Sony?

@RasenganFury THANK YOU! .. Now I don't feel half as bad for buying a PS3 on the day PSN went down - I got an hour of multiplayer in for Black Ops and then decided to do more campaigns -sigh- .. Wish I would of played more multiplayer now since it was the first time in a year aside from MMO's

I think s/he was referring to was that the Dead Space 2 trophies were on the older PS3, and since PSN had been down, the sync never happened and the transfer to the new PS3 has already happened.

@RasenganFury Do you have any idea how outdated the PSN servers must have been if they pulled the active servers (no maintainance), and if, they, including 3 separate specialist contractors, are in fact "working on PSN around the clock" (which i doubt btw). Also you should be equally pissed at sony, they are using tax money (the FBI) to help investigate the mess they neglected... would anyone like salt for that wound? Sony paid an effective 5% tax rate in fiscal year 2009, what did you pay?

If it makes you feel better my 40GB system YLOD yesterday and I had to buy a new console so I swapped out the hard drive so I could save my save games but the hard drive was corrupted so I lost everything including all my Operation Flashpoint Red River trophies... Just needed one or two for the platinum. *sad face*

@The Dark Trooper You CANNOT swap one hard drive from one PS3 and put it in another! It's encrypted and locked to the one machine it was formatted in. Put it in any other PS3 and it will reformat it and you will lose everything.

If you kept your PS3 the best bet is to fix the YLoD (I did it myself a few times, it cost a fiver for thermal paste and I borrowed a heat gun for free) then either back up the saved games to an external drive (but you won't be able to back up locked game saves), or backup everything in one go using the Backup option (I'd delete ALL unnecessary files like movies and music and game install data, else it takes hours) OR when PSN comes back up get on PS+ and save your games to the online cloud.

But don't EVER expect to swap a PS3 HDD from one to another and keep anything. Your drive is not corrupted, it's just locked to your dead PS3... but YLoD can be fixed, at least temporarily!

If the hard drive was corrupt then your console might be fine just put in a new hdd and enter safe mode and reinstall the newest firmware and it should work, it did with mine.

Kinda like the 360. Of course if the PS3 YLOD was on the scale of the FIASCO that was the 360... I imagine I'd be more concerned. Sometimes complex products fail. But the PS3 YLOD is nowhere NEAR the 360. (And for the record, I own a 360, so I'm not a fanboy trying to "Defend" the PS3.)

Not to mention the 360's other problems: E74, disc can't read, open tray, destroying it's own discs, video problems, dozens of other error codes(people still haven't found the cause of most of them).

On the PS3 you only get overheated GPU/CPU and worn lasers. On the 360 just about anything can go bad.

Bottom line: If anyone tries to compare PS3 failure rate to 360 failure rate they're a raging fanboy.

Really? Thanks for the heads up. I know I'll end up buying a PS3 someday, and I'm used to being able to transport an X360 HDD across multiple consoles. This limitation will take some getting used to.

It's not Sony's or Microsoft's direct fault for making shoddy consoles. True, they did install processors that were way too hot for the rest of the equipment, but for one thing, NO ONE ever cleans their fans and heatsinks, and for another, Europe dictated that ALL circuit boards sold for consumer use be LEAD FREE. Way back in the ancient historical origins of soldering, we used tin but found it to be insufficient, being brittle, easily corroding, and that corrosion would crystallize into whiskers that would short out pins. So we added LEAD, which solved all those issues. Now, instead of instituting better recycling programs, they banned all lead. Which means that your PS3 or Xbox sits there being hot as hell, full of dust, and the board flexes a bit, then cools down, then heats up, etc... Anyway, you get broken contacts from the brittle LEAD FREE crap. But that's exactly what electronic manufacturers want. Something that lasts just long enough to get out of warranty before it fails. And even if you DO take care of it and clean it regularly, it will still fail when the solder grows tin whiskers and shorts out everything on the board PERMANENTLY.

Oh no!! what will I ever do without online play? oh I know still play the games, just not online. And lets see better games, Bluray player. PS3 is a much better choice than an xbox which since losing the exclusive rights to mass effect doesn't really have a good game that justifies owning a 360.

I own both consoles and I can honestly say Sony gets all the better games especially RPG wise which honestly I can't complain about no PSN - I prefer RPG's over Multiplayer game but it's still great to play games such as Call Of Duty .. Hmm I just wish there were more MMO's for PS3 aside from DCUO & Final Fantasy 14.. Hopefully we'll see some more of these beautiful suckers come out .. I haven't even played DCUO or FF14 but I can tell you .. I won't .. DCUO is too much like World of Warcraft and FF14 has no PVP so i've heard.
