Stopped playing this game right around the obsessive compulsives made idle servers for weapons and hats. Went from a simplicity wins, amazing game to a OMG HATS HATS HATS.

Not to mention the release of the newer weapons has taken away the ability for classes to stay role specific.

@HeyItsDasHatter teamwork still wins, hats will never change that. They're just decoration. Your comment is invalid.

None of the updates they've made break the balance of the game. There isn't a single class or build that can't be countered. Again, your comment is invalid.

@oolzie What he said. What exactly does people on a random server farming for garbage have anything to do with your gaming experience?

@HeyItsDasHatter

Totally agree with you..

Hats ruin, break and unbalance gameplay! Only reason why I quit TF2 also!
..not even talking about gameDESTROYING items stats like ...+25HP or -70% splash damage. What were they thinking?

@HeyItsDasHatter I hate to say it but I kind of agree. I played thousands of hours of TF2. I loved the "release a new class, everyone plays to try and get the achievments," dynamic. But suddenly there were hats, unlocks, crates, paint, purchases, items to collect, metals to combine, and lots and lots of new weapons and crap that would take way too long to get. It's too overwhelming. I know that they are just supporting a game and that is supposed to be good.... I just think they supported it to death. (in my opinion... I know some people just love it.)

You've always been able to save and replay videos in TF2. Type record in console some time.

But YouTube integration is sweet. Now just add that to CS:S so I can brag to an audience that hasn't existed for five or six years.

@Babelfish

I think the Counter-Strike audience is still huge - I'm guessing CS is in the top 5 of current most played online PC games.

Heard they added kill/death stats and a kill-cam - might get back into it now.

This is a little different. If the server supports it, all you have to do after you die is hit F6, and it saves a replay of your last life. The demo feature required you to be running it before anything happened.

"But if you don't play Team Fortress 2, you still get a hilarious comic."

That comic is only funny IF you play Team Fortress 2

I wish I had a video of my favorite kill ever. I was playing demo, across a gap from a soldier. Below the gap was another surface -- not too far down, maybe enough to do 10-15 damage if you fell -- and we were on the ledges at each side of the gap, attacking each other. I launched a sticky at him, and as it flew, he stepped off the ledge to fall down. Thinking quickly, I blew up the sticky mid-air, hoping to kill him. I didn't.

But, the force of the sticky propelled him into the ground so hard that he died from the impact. It was amazing.

You are grossly underestimating the power of TF2, my friend. TF3 isn't even a tangible concept yet considering the regular updates that TF2 has (the developers even made this explicit point in the game's commentary). Unless, of course, you'd rather have Valve release another game with only a handful of added features and make Team Fortress the newest franchise in the saturated FPS market, like some companies would.

@Tradio are you seriously saying they should've made a TF3 instead of supporting TF2

i cant believe anyone hates games enough to think stuff like this

This isn't your crappy new CoD of the month game. TF2 took ten years to come out. This isn't a game that requires yearly sequels to rake money from you people. The effort and time they have poured into this game after release outpaces almost every single game developer in the entire development time of their games.

We don't need a TF3. If you must have sequels constantly to make you feel like your game is current, please go see MW, CoD, or whatever flavor-of-the-month FPS has come out and gotten the attention of your kind of people.

Played around with it last night. It's nice that they added the feature, but honestly it's really clunky. You have to create a save file for each life you want to record. The server records it and then you download it from the server. Again, for each life. Then, once you're in the editor, it has to reload the map every time you want to rewind. I don't know, it's nice that they have the feature, but every other game I've played with a theater mode does a much better, smoother job of implementing it.

I tried logging in last night after updating and now promptly crash at the main screen before the menu comes up. Seems like a few others are hitting this on the forums as well.

I'm sad.

I haven't played in a while. I'm not really too big a fan of having to unlock weapons using real money. If anyone actually played the 360 version, I would buy it.

@SitriStahl Any weapon that has any sort of game changing benefit is available completely free of charge. Valve isn't stupid. They're not going to give people an unfair advantage.

Drops occur every 15 to 75 minutes. You can get 7-12 items per week, unless you didn't play and get any the week before, then the cap rolls over to the next week, and you can get double that.

Almost all promotional items can be crafted. Crafting materials require time spent in game. Only a few require specific purchases to get the items needed, or the items themselves, and those are visual items only.

Assuming you didn't do any of the achievements, you could get a good chunk of the items simply by sitting in a server doing nothing (this is idling and frowned upon.)

Nothing requires money to unlock, and the few items that do require another game to be purchased are visual only.

@AxelSteelBMX The Replay feature just uses the same game engine, it's pretty much just like being in spectator mode while waiting to respawn. If you can run TF2, you can do the replay feature.
