@AdamSpruijt

He did at one point acknowledge that games could be art, but that he has difficulty viewing them as such personally.

Well, this could be good - or it could lead to some of the worst video games you've ever seen. Insert a quarter and the machine pees on you.

@Oldtaku

A brilliant analogy to the industry's mistreatment of its fans. 10/10 GOTY of the year.

I'm sure Ebert would be yelling up a storm about videogames finally being acknowledged as art... too bad he can't talk.

I really hope that this money goes to well deserving indie developers, and not large developers (that would consider $200,000 to be a drop in the bucket).

This is a great thing either way.

Can't find a publisher for your game because it's no fun and because it hatefully mocks a major American religion? Now you don't need one! You can get some money that was stolen from your neighbors to finish your game!

Just send in your grant proposal, along with a list of your recent political contributions and the details on which religion you want to mock*, to the NEA. Our board will consider it and hopefully approve your grant!

* The sacred Islamic faith must never be mocked. Grant proposals mocking Islam will be forwarded to the Justice Dept. Office of Civil Rights Enforcement for immediate action.

Hey...so If I'm working on a game(and I kinda am) and I ask this nice gentlemen to give me money...they might?

Then I could give some money to WizzyWhipitWonderful to make some cool music for my game! And I could afford my own computer to work on it! Holy shit guys!

Keep in mind, guys, that the base criteria for receiving an NEA grant is a significant amount of published art experience. So it isn't like they're going to give this to just anyone. The recipients will have to be proven artists in their field.

Why would that be? It's not like video game consoles are the only product Sony creates. Hell, they could do away with it and just do what they've always done. (TVs, Laptops, other electronic devices)
