LA Noire launch trailer is all good cops and grimaces
96
Being a good cop in '40s-era Los Angeles isn't as simple as sticking to the book. If LA Noire's launch trailer is any indication, detectives will need to rely and relay a lot on his face. Specifically, that look he gets whenever he bites into a lemon.

Woah, is it really only out in a week? Time goes by fast. Then again, maybe it's just that they didn't announce this game 3 years before release... Like some developers.

Please tell me you're kidding and I'm missing out on the sarcasm. This game was announced like 6 years ago. It was rumored to be a PS3 exclusive for a long time, and it was supposed to come out in 2008

Oh, well, I didn't know about it. So to me, it was only announced last year. (Which is how it should be for most games)

@ZodiacKilla427 It was 2006 when I first learned of it, so it wasn't just 2 years ago. This has been a very long wait for me.

Is there any actual gameplay footage out? Cut scenes don't say much.
Posted: May 11th 2011 12:21PM (Unverified) said
@GreenLight - I think this is the first non-gameplay footage trailer Rockstar has put out (or at least the first one I have seen that doesn't say "made entirely of gmaeplay footage" at the end). I recommend checking out Rockstar's La Noire website - they have a whole gameplay footage video series. That series (along with Amazon's $15 dealio) sold me on getting my first pre-order.

It says the entire trailer was made from gameplay footage at the end.
Maybe take a closer look?

@Lucky48 ... If this game plays like RDR, then I will definitely buy it. RDR is my favorite game of all time.

Well for starters don't expect a 58' Rootabaga to handle like an 08' Infernus. The steering is a little loose, but when escaping the Coppers, the adrenalin rush will make it unnoticeable.
Oh yeah, pump breaks throughly before turning since ABS didn't exist then, or, lose control and risk being caught by the fuzz and serving time in the big house.

@packy17 ... Thanks for the heads up. This will only be the second Rockstar game I've purchased, so I didn't know they were all similar. Now I'm getting a little more excited for this title.

C'mon guys, I prefer to use the "show don't tell method". Watch this cutscene from Black Ops (skip to about 2:05): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHlTpc9Ig-w
Then watch the trailer up there. The movements in the facial animations are much more subtle and expressive in L.A. Noire. That's not even an opinion, as the technology used to make L.A. Noire literally makes it true. There IS more detail, and not even Activision would dispute that. L.A. Noire had actual actors come in, and used some brand-spankin'-new technology to capture all the subtle facial ticks and cues that they exhibit when delivering their lines.
I don't actually know what technology the developers of Black Ops used, but while the facial animations are by no means bad, they don't allow for the kind of subtlety needed in a game where telling whether the guy your grilling is lying to you or not based on facial cues alone is paramount.

theres a difference between gameplay and cut scene facial animation. The gameplay facial animation for L.A. Noire is probably the best i have ever seen.

Rather than call you names, I'm just going to assume that you've never actually seen the game, and are confusing L.A. Noire with something else.

Face play? What's that all about? It'll be interesting. Please check out my book THE OLD MAN AND THE WASTELAND on Kindle Amazon if you like Fallout. And LA Noire!

I don't get the hype. The faces are just creepy (though I'm interested to the technology evolve) and the graphics look sub-par. Early games from this generation look more advanced than this does.
Maybe it will surprise me but so far I'm bored by everything I see. Seems like another instance of designers / writers who think they are more talented they really are.

Ah, you're one of those. If a game sees much praise, it must be all hype because you, being better than everyone else, can see through all that. See the game for what it really is.
Because you're opinion trumps everyone else. Hey, if you don't like it a game, that's fine, I don't care, but just because you don't like it doesn't make everyone else suddenly wrong about it.
