Oh hell no, as much as I love minecraft, I dont see there being nearly enough stuff to keep people busy/entertained for more then a few hours...I mean hell, look at blizzcon, half the people I know, who are massive blizzard fan, ran out of shit to do at each one generally (Q&A panels aren't for everyone).

I guess to each is their own, but it just seems like a bad idea IMO.

I know that this is a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway! Is there a chance of this game getting a retail version? I've played the free demo on that guy's website and it was really fun. The thing is, and call me paranoid if ya want, but I'm just not too keen on using my credit card online, especially after the whole PSN thing. Silly, I know, but that's just me.

Notch said it would be a download-only title, so guess not. He said that before he created Mojang so maybe he'll change his mind. However, since Minecraft isn't a "heavy" game, at under 10 mb, I doubt that he will release retail:S

You can usually buy prepaid Visa cards in grocery stores and Wal-Mart. That way you can pay online without giving out your personal card or account number. Worst case scenario is a thief would get the nickel of change left on the card.

Get PayPal if you are worried about using your credit card online.
As for retail release, I don't know but I doubt it.

Not sure about all that, but would like to see this "Speed Building" competition, that sounds pretty cool. Would probably be cooler if they could get the people who coded some of the popular mods for the game there too.

I dunno...

BlizzCon works because 99% of the Blizzard games are social experiences. I go every year and it's enjoyable.

Minecraft is (with the exception of multiplayer) mostly a kind of solitary weird experience. The people I know who play Minecraft (I happen to enjoy it myself) don't generally seem to be social people, if I may play the stereotype card.

It just seems like a con wouldn't work, the audience doesn't quite seem the same. Maybe I'm wrong and the audience has expanded, though. I've heard stories of people putting their kids in front of it and having a grand time.

Having a convention for one game? Sure, it's Minecraft, but it doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I doubt there would be enough to do there to warrant a $90 pass and a trip to Vegas.

I do wish I had known that MinecraftCon 2010 was just down the street from me, though.

Minecraft has been showing up in all sorts of art exhibits and conventions.

I think it could do fine. I'm on the East coast though; so nope..

I could be wrong, I haven't been to one of these conventions yet.. but my lady went to one in boston and brought me home such awesome swag!

..Imagine the swag at a minecraftcon

I'm taking a break from minecraft. Last week I think I put in some 30 hours, staying up til 2am or later each night pays its toll.

That sounds like a bad idea.
I mean, Blizzcon works because Blizzard Games are incredibly deep social experiences. I mean what do you talk about at a minecraft convention?
Blocks? Mining? Other, slightly different colored blocks?
