So don't fret, Ridge Racers. Think of Unbounded less as a new direction and more a sidepath, a shortcut that's being explored. And, assuming this is the first of many, let's hope the side streets down the road have better names.
Ridge Racer Unbounded will be a brand within a brand
42
Some of you in the Ridge Racer hardcore may have been a little put out by early video of the edgier Ridge Racer Unbounded, but it appears you needn't worry. During Namco Bandai's Level Up event in Dubai, product manager Kevin Chadine said that the Ridge Racer brand is becoming a larger umbrella with several series underneath it, much like EA has done with Need For Speed, saying of Unbounded that "This is just a different branch."
So don't fret, Ridge Racers. Think of Unbounded less as a new direction and more a sidepath, a shortcut that's being explored. And, assuming this is the first of many, let's hope the side streets down the road have better names.

I don't see why anyone would be worried about Ridge Racer taking a new direction.
It's been the same game since 1993!

Ironic that at 0:47 she says "Nothing gets in our way" as on screen the car crashes.

Is it just me or is everyone desperate to come up with a different way to say "unrestrained" every time they release a new racing game?

I'm a ridge racer traditionalist and don't like this new look. The clean lines or ridge racer classic is where I want to race.

@redsyrup I don't mind a spin-off for once. I'm really curious about what Bugbear made of it.
As long as Namco doesn't mess up Ridge Racer 8, or Ridge Racers 3 for NGP, I'm fine with anything in between :p
Also, new tracks are highly appreciated :)

I don't want a spin off urban street racer, I want to race around ridges and powerslide to 1st place. =( NFS and Burnout have this market locked down. Just give us the Ridge Racer I've known and loved for years.

I haven't played RIdge Racer in years, but just wondering, is there driver AI these days, or are all cars still on rails?

I read "Unbounded" in the title and just thought it was a typo. I finish watching the trailer and realize it wasn't... I really, really hope they change that to (at least) "Unbound", or something else entirely.
But on the other hand, RRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RAAAAAAAAACER!

"We are the unbounded" is pretty cheesy but i don't care. Bring on the rebirth of the arcade racer genre! Just (finally) picked up Hot Pursuit in a good sale so that + Dirt3 should keep me busy until this and other projects we've heard about start coming out in Q4/Q1 2012. Consider me stoked.

@MDizzy
yeah, I didn't mean for it to seem that I was calling D3 an arcade racer, just that it would be a racing game that would help me pass the time alongside NFS:HP. Badly written statement :) I've always been into rally (I own a WRX) so its the closest thing to sim-like games that I play.
I'd probably play more sims if the locales weren't tracks but then they wouldn't really be sims :p I hate racing on tracks for too long, just becomes boring to me. Guess that's why I like Dirt.

Woah woah woah... 'Unbounded'?
If we're truly happy with that affront to the English language then I've prepared some race chatter snippets that will fit well with this new theme.
"Haha! I beated you!"
"I winned again!"
"You came last, you losted."
"RRRIIIIIIIIDGE RAAAAACERED!!"
