David Jones joins APB Reloaded in 'advisory role'
16
You know what they say: If at first you don't succeed, join the team doing the remake. Veteran game developer David Jones, responsible for classics like Lemmings, Grand Theft Auto and Crackdown, made an MMO called APB a little while back that eventually closed up shop in record time. Then, a company called GamersFirst bought the rights to APB, and made plans to redevelop it as APB Reloaded. Now, that same David Jones has joined the free-to-play remake in "an advisory role."
Really? GamersFirst says it's excited to have Jones around to "share his vast game design experience during critical design stages of the ongoing development of APB Reloaded." That sounds good, we guess. Everybody deserves a second chance, right?

You know what they say: if it wasn't fun the first time, make it free.

So they hired the guy who ran the company into the ground while making the first game. Makes perfect sense...

They hired him on an advisory role. It's not like they are going to put him in charge of development or finances is it?
It's worth having the man who brought us Grand Theft Auto and Lemmings around, even if it is only for input.

It makes sense, in a way. The guy you should trust to get you out of a hole logically should be the one who dug it in the first place. David Jones is their personal Chilean miner.
Oddly appropriate considering I don't think there's much else he can do for them at this point except sit around in his underwear and wait for the rescue project to be over.

Wow, why all the hate for this guy? His record speaks for itself, and in my opinion one flop and several classics isn't a bad record! Besides, there were a lot more people working at Realtime Worlds besides him. He came up with the idea for APB, and in my opinion the idea was great, it was the execution that didn't work! smh...people are so quick to judge!!! :-)

@Dukk420 yeah i wouldn't have thought he would be in-charge of the finances, just the games direction which was all that bad might have done better if they sold it off as private server software so peeps could host their own servers as well but hindsight is always perfect.

@Dukk420 Agreed. Dave Jones' track record does speak for itself. Psygnosis, ran into the ground until bailed out by Sony. DMA Design, ran into the ground until bailed out by Take 2. RealTime Worlds, simply ran into the ground. I, as a developer, think that Dave Jones' day has passed and he should leave the industry before he has the chance to wreck anothet 250 developers careers.

It´s funny how dave jones ALWAYS gets the credit for GTA and lemmings ando nobody remembers Mike Dailly who had more creative input on those games than dave, I think the only title that was 100% dave was menace, he had a lot of talented people around him and that helped DMA to be very successful, but by no means he was a one man army, and sometimes he gets more credit of what he deserves.....

This is just depressing and yet, not at all surprising in the slightest.
