@Squirtbot

why are you commenting on his review if you don't care about it?

Just want to throw in an anecdote about "fun" in games... Failing doesn't always necessarily = not fun. Some of my favorite Left 4 Dead and Super Meat Boy moments were failtastic embarrassments that resulted in pure comedy.

The way I read Justin's review was there are points where you could botch up a case, which may lead you down a path of less experience points and rewards - but it is a unique path. The fact that it's my experience, win or lose, is what makes it fun.

For example - early on in Fallout 3, I ratted out the guy who wanted to blow up Megaton to the town sheriff, which resulted in a confrontation that led to both characters dead. Totally changed the rest of the game for me. A new sheriff was appointed, that entire plotline of destroying Meagton is severed... yeah, i missed out in content, but that is a story I tell to most people who play that game, and they go "holy crap! I can't believe that happened." and so its an experience I don't regret, or even want to play the game again to undo.

I'm already on board for LA Noire, but if it has experiences like these - GOTY.

So can you install it on the 360 hard drive so that you don't have to disk swap?

@Stangs55

I don't know if LA Noire is different, but I installed Dead Space 2 to my hard drive and both discs were separate files. I had to insert both discs to play their respective portion of the game. I assume LA Noire is the same.

Except that's not true...at all. Rockstar also is responsible for developing it as well as publishing it.

The commenters more than make up for any bias on Joystiq's part.

Also Joystiq also merged with Xbox fanboy and Nintendo Fanboy soooo.....?!

@maxxgold They gave a good review. They said it has some faults. All games have some faults. They just said what they were then they said what they thought was good. It was a pretty unbiased review.

@Railgun LA Noire is still open world, but much more linear. You still have to drive from place to place, and you can go off and do side missions, but I think that it'll push you to the next location for the storyline much harder than in GTA or RDR.

How could you not like GTA? Just teasing, but the Grand Theft Auto series is one of my favorites.

If you dont want to read the review. This is the super short version. They said some things could have been better like a better control scheme. Then they said parts were really good and that some parts of they game moved kind of slow, and since it is a different kind of game it is more up to the player to decide if it is fun or not. (not being negative. My cousin has ADD) It is like if you have ADD you wont like the game cause you have to pay close attention. But if you have ADD and play MW2 or Halo Reach you will think it is fun cause it is shoot everything in sight. It means it depends on your personality.

@Gwacakaaka I say MW2 or Halo Reach because you dont have to pay super close attention. Also they said it had enough violence (i.e. fist fights and shoot outs) to please most gamers. I got that last bit of info from Game Informer.

"Team Bondi also makes a misstep by occasionally forcing you to lock up the wrong man in the service of the overall narrative"

This is definitely a spoiler.

nice review. this sounds like a really unique experience. i remember the first trailer for this game when i assumed it was "40's GTA" but it seems to be something completely different and a must have. i'm pretty sure i'm going to pick this up. i may wait a week or two because Amazon usually throws a post launch deal out to save a few bucks so i won't feel bad if i don't like it.

Does anyone know who wrote this? I hope it's not Houser again. The man couldn't write a fleshed-out character if his life depended on it.

Ok,
Can one of the reviewers help me decide what version to get?
I have both systems, but like the 360's controllers better than the PS3's.
Other than Disc quantity, is there one version that is the one to get?

@Al Ferreira

www.lensoftruth did a write up on the game, lots of screen caps for comparison. The PS3 has SSAO where the 360 doesn't, it apparently gives it a more realistic look. Read up on it for your self, but it seems that the PS3 version came up on top. Keep in mind that it was developed with the PS3 as the lead system (this was verified in an interview with 1-up).

I tend to usually buy 360 games for multi-console releases and I was going back and fourth right up to release, but I'm glad I went PS3. Also, the ps3 version is 1 blu-ray, where the 360 is on 3 discs, not that big of an issue, but it may be a little annoying when you get the urge to replay a case or two. I don't know how the switching works, but it might get annoying if further down Phelps' career you feel like replaying an older Traffic case or something.

And don't forget the PS3 does come with an extra DLC case on pack, whenever the PSN store is back up at least. I for one am very excited about being able to play more cases in this game.

I'm only up to the Homicide desk but I can honestly say this is my new favorite game. I've always wanted to play a detective game, a game where you actually look for clues and missing things or asking the wrong questions can change the outcome of a mission/case. I have that now in L.A. Noire.

It's great stuff and I'll buy every bit of DLC for it, except for new suits, just new cases.

I wonder if they'll do a modern sequel where you can plant evidence and water board confessions out of people.

So wait... Rockstar Hating Trolls are coming out of the woodwork here to call people who like this game (not made by Rockstar) Rockstar loving trolls?

...The hell?

As for "Every review I read calls it bland... blah, blah, blah" what reviews are you reading? The GameFaqs "user reviews"? And.. Only the negative ones?

This game is great, it's not for the PEW!PEW!PEW! ADD gamer... but that's about all it's not for.

Being keelhauled into saying things I wouldn't say (though Phelps would) and things I wouldn't do (though Phelps does) and conclusions I wouldn't draw against suspects I wouldn't convict on evidence I wouldn't throw at them ... is messing with my head as a gamer. I'm approaching this game the wrong way. I think I fell under the illusion that I'd make more of a difference. Still. Cool story, bro.

Jaw dropping amount of detail, unless you stop squinting, at which point their faces become blurry and you realize that the only effort put into a characters face was Cole Phelps, and that everyone in the game has the back of the head from N64.
