New voice for Harley Quinn in Batman: Arkham City

Arleen Sorkin pretty much owns the role of Harley Quinn -- well, she did. Sorkin, who helped create the character in the early 90s on Batman: The Animated Series, won't be voicing Harley in this fall's Batman: Arkham City (despite carrying on the role in the first game). Instead, veteran voice actor Tara Strong will take her first stab at Harley.

Strong has been doing cartoon and video game voice overs since the late 80s. Some of her roles include X-23 in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Rikku in Kingdom Hearts 2 and Sheegor in Psychonauts. She also voiced The Huntress in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold animated series.

A brief Q&A with Strong has been posted on the official Arkham City site, in which she says she wants to "honor" Harley's established voice -- but until we actually hear her rendition, we can't help but morn the loss of Sorkin.

A bit of a bummer, but Tara Strong is a seriously amazing voice actress. Has done everything from Raven in Teen Titans to Twlight Sparkle in My Little Pony.

I HATED his take on the Joker. I'm a big fan of John DiMaggio but his performance seemed more suited for a member of the Falcone family than the Joker.

ugh so lame.

Maybe they should change the Joker's hair color to blue while they're at it.

I could understand if the original actor is unavailable, but that aside - why must companies do such things to us fans?

She's cute, but she voiced Rikku of FFX fame. I'm torn now.

@Noksukow Tara has a good range of voices. I'm gonna feel it when she does Harley though.

@CaptainProtonX Also worth noting she voiced Rikku in Kingdom Hearts 2, not FFX/FFX-2.

This was already well known. I don't know why sites decided it was news today. Various sites that have been to the preview events have commented on this already.

Tara Strong is decent, but it just won't be the same "Mr. J" without Arleen...

That sucks, but I know Tara Strong is a good voice actor. It will probably make me feel the same way I do whenever I hear anyone other than Kevin Conroy voicing an animated Batman.

Yeah, it's hard not to compare them but rather let them stand on their own merits. Especially when they started with such amazing voices. I mean, can you read Joker dialog in any voice other than Hamill's? I sure can't.

@Zertoss I was pretty hesitant when I heard that John DiMaggio was going to voice the Joker in Batman: Under the Red Hood, but he actually did a really good job. Bruce Greenwood was also good as Batman. I've learned over the years that Conroy and Hamil can't be the voices forever (even if I secretly want them to be).

I disagree completely. I think the voice acting in Red Hood was absolutely terrible. Besides NPH of course.

@whylekat Jensen Ackles did a decent Jason Todd. Even if Jason Todd was basically Dean Winchester.

I hope there is a better reason than just wanting to go in a different direction. One of the main attractions of Arkham Asylum was the ability to revisit the voices from the animated series.

But I'd still like to know why Sorkin isn't involved. I hope it's just a matter of conflicting schedules...

Wow that is an awesome change. I hope they changed it from that annoying high pitch to low pitch like Commander Shepard (Female) because that voice is sexy.

I was a little upset until I read Tara Strong will be replacing her. Tara's done just about every voice in the world, look her up lol.

Still ashame the old actor won't be doing it though.

I was disappointed until i read Tara Strong I'm sure she can pull it off.

Sorkin was probably a hold out and wanted more money.

The voice of Bubbles (powerpuff girl) as Harley Quinn? It's hard to imagine that.. Bubbles was so sweet :(

Tara Strong is an awesome VA. I'm confident this won't detract from the game's quality.
